silicon will not cut it. maybe jb weld but I have no idea if it holds as well as they claim it does.

because what im thinking right now about putting diamond plate in, is that if i did that i would cut out the carpet square a little bit smaller than the diamond plate so that the carpet would flow under the diamond plate.

If ur doing diamond plate,
1. u better have silver/chrome accents other places.
2. Just lay it over the carpet. (Could use neodynium magnets to prevent it from moving)
3. Prepare for snow/salt to destroy the edges around the plating.

rida125 09-16-2009 09:09 PM

what if i put like some sort of rubber around the edge's of the diamond plate?

hok666 09-16-2009 09:12 PM

do it and get back to us on it... for a few laughs at least.. unless it looks good

Then you would just be giving the winter salt an awesome place to sit and hide

kwhauck 09-16-2009 10:30 PM

to be honest, if you take a left or right, you are gonna end up at the house of fail.....

Putting wood floors in an Alero just creates another worry for you. On top of all the other things that go wrong you would have to worry about termites. ;)

Bad idea.

rida125 09-17-2009 12:09 AM

ok but would the whole diamond plate thing really be that bad? and i mean in the winter when i go to get my car washed weekly i will clean the diamond plate with it like that. so whats so bad with that? i guess i dont know, i dont really see whats so bad about diamond plate mat things, but actually using sheet metal with a rubber edge to catch the dirt and what not.

Ok so this might sound dumb along with a few other things i have probably said over the last couple of days  but what exactly is that?

cherrington17 09-17-2009 07:03 AM

google is your best friend.

rida125 09-17-2009 09:37 AM

Cherrington17 what do you think about having the rubber band around the outside of the plate to act as an actual metal mat?

cherrington17 09-17-2009 01:03 PM

still not a fan of having a metal mat. they only exist for show purposes, i prefer to have functionality.

hence why i'm made fun of for my big red rubber "racing X" walmart mats. but anyone who wants to laugh, can laugh at the amount of salt i wash out of them every spring.

rida125 09-17-2009 01:13 PM

What about a diamond plate the trunk, it makes for a more durable trunk setting

FrankTheTank 09-17-2009 01:14 PM

just give up...

rida125 09-17-2009 01:18 PM

Like what if I made the whole trunk plated with diamond plate

jayson_waltz 09-17-2009 01:18 PM

diamond plating wouldn't be too bad, lots better than hardwood flooring. it would still cover your carpet and be functional as long as you cleaned them often enough so stuff doesn't pile up on them and fall off onto the carpet. i know pawzbear has diamond plated mats in her cobalt ss, it doesn't look too bad imo. if you are still worried about the carpet you could always do what i do and cover the carpet in then dealer floor plastic like what is stuck on in new cars.

Is that just covering the carpet or did she cut out that carpet?
