ya its been sitting outside in the back of my driveway for like 4-5 years now. I just paid off the gto so i got some extra cash to throw towards this now and hopefully get it up and running without any major problems this time.Small update i tore everything apart and im getting ready to pull out the motor. I need a bigger table  |
wow, nice progress! keep us updated.
You have 2 turbos???? Sell me one!
ya i bought the smaller one from cxracing years ago then i got a really good deal on the 35r from a member on jbody so i upgraded

Yeah I know how that is. My GA is just sitting out there too till I get a shell for it. Still this is an exciting thing! hmm 2 turbos... and so it begins |
Nice i got a f40 tranny from cxracing.
The 35r may be a little small for you sleepy...
Sorry for no updates i ended up using the money ive saved up for this build to pay off the GTO :yahoo: :yahoo: But now that its all payed up and taken care of it frees up a lot of extra income so this build should start moving along again
^smart. But get to work now. :thumb:
Well tiny update.... Guess whats in the box :awesome:
And the Stock TB next to the new one not even close lol Well thats the good news but the bad news is the builds on hold for awhile i totaled are kenworth 2 weeks ago so moneys pretty tight till we get rolling again :( :( |
Ouch! What happened? Glad you are okay.
Damn that truck took a beating! Hope all parties involved are ok! I have crazy respect for anyone who drives one of these trucks with all the idiots on the roads these days....
Ya it happened around 1230-1am outside of Columbus OH we had a light load of 12k lbs and we got stuck in that crappy weather of the hurricane coming up the middle of the country. It jacked knifed when i was going into a corner and over a bridge luckily i was only going 55 so the rear end hit the jersey barrier on the left side then crossed back over the highway and hit and came to a stop on the jersey barrier in the break down lane. Nobody was hurt and we were the only one involved in the wreck i just gave my dad one hell of a wake up cause he was asleep in the back bunk when it happened lol.
Alright after a long delay thanks to totaling the truck, buying a new one and im closing on a new house with a sweet 3 car garage in 30 days the project is back on track now. I just bought a engine hoist and stand and it should be here next week some im hoping to get the engine out soon and on the stand for a tear down.
Nice.. At some point I'd like to do either a super or a turbo.. not sure which. Kinda really dig the idea of a supercharger.. but this late in the game for these 2.4's I'm not sure which would be the cheaper route. But that all has to wait, as I have a Bravada to get on the road yet, and the Alero needs body work or, a new shell if I can find one for cheaper than the needed body work.
Nice! I wasn't around for the original build, so I guess I'll have to look at that old thread whenever I have the chance to.
Ya it's been a loooong project lol and I forgot the pics earlier this is the brand new freightliner evolution we bought
And the engine stand I got the lifts still being shipped I'll take pics when it gets here and I set it up |
UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!! finally got enough time off to get something done. So me and my dad got to it and it was super easy sense this is like my 3rd or 4th time pulling an engine out of this damn car.
So everything went smooth new im going to drop the sub frame with the trans and then pressure wash everything and hit it with a wire wheel then throw some paint on everything. The only snag we hit were the 4 bolt that attache the engine to the stand were to small so i got to run out and get some other ones then ill have pics of it on there and the tear down im very interested to see what the motor looks like its got over 200k on it |
Sweet!! Now it's time to see that engine on an engine stand!
Finally got the right bolts and got it mounted to the stand i should be able to start the tear down after the 4th sometime
Glad you're okay after the truck accident and also it's go to see the project moving along
Keep us updated. I like pictures :thumb:
Would also like to see further updates!

Bad News
Soooo small crappy update we started remolding the garage a few months ago so i boxed up all my parts into big plastic bins to protect them. Well turns out water somehow got into the bin and the rods and lifter were just sitting in water and I didn't realize till today when we started unpacking stuff that water had gotten in there and the rods and lifters got a ton of rust on them :( :( I have a sand blasting cabinet and im hoping i can spray them with some light grit plastic or glass bead and get all the rust off and see if there still going to be usable.
Man, that sucks.. rust looks pretty bad, hopefully you can save em.
Quote:
ya im pretty sure the lifers are gone the rust on the bottom is very deep and ruff but the rods dont look as bad so fingers crossed |
What about trying a rust removal solution before using the sand blaster? It might not be as abrasive as the sand that could damage the pieces... Just a thought... Hopefully they're ok!!
Damn :(
Quote:
thats not a bad idea im going to try that first |
Small update i ended up trying the rust remover(WD-40 rust remover soak) as tw0123 recommended and it turned out really well all the surfaces on the rods are all smooth now although there still discolored were the rust was. Anyways here some pics of the rods now lifter are still soaking and im hoping to tear into the motor thats on the engine stand next month and see if im able to use it.
that's awesome that it worked man!! Sometimes the cheap fixes do work!! :)
ya it worked like a charm i'm definitely going to keep a jug of this stuff around the shop at all times
Intrigued to see how it works on the lifters
Quote:
Ask and you shall receive lol the lifters seem to be all fixed i accidentally left them in for 3 day instead of the 24 hrs but there doesn't seem to be any damage as a result of that And as of now the rods and lifters are going to stay in a nice bath of some 10W50 i had laying around forever and finally decided to put to some use lets see them rust in that lol |
in other news i finally got my garage all cleaned up so i could put my baby away for the winter its going to be my bench mark for when i finally finish the alero.
and who wants to help me with an engine swap think it will fit? lol |
