Hi from The Netherlands!
Hi all,
My name is Eelco and I'm from the Netherlands. I bought an Alero two weeks ago despite the fact that I did read all comments on carsurvey.org about our beloved cars. It is an 2.4 GL, mistysilver (#17) exterior and tan interior. It has 65.000 km on the odometer and I have put already a good 2500 km on it till now. When I bought it, the car had stood still for half a year on the parkingroof of a dealership. The previous (first) owner died in June last year and the family still had to decide what to do with it. Things I had to do when I got her: - Replace blower resistor - Replace serpetine belt and tensioner (were squeeking) - Replaced righthandside mirror glass (old one fell out probably) - Headlights aligned Also replaced the head unit (it was still working, but the cd skipped with every pebble on the road) with a DIN1. Was hell to get in, even with the special adapter. Things I still have to do: - Replace rear speakers (1 is blown up) - Oil change Despite all the so called flaws on this car, I really like the looks of it and I think that if you take good care of the car, the car takes good care of you. And sure, there are always points of attention, but that is with every car. It is called (excessive) wear  - bearings - brakes The sidemarkers (cornerlights) have an amber bulb, but it is hard to see here. The foglights don't have that much output, but they do look cool! Oh, and for a hobby I drive a Buick Riviera 1970 with the 455cu V8 and a 1980 Honda CX500 motorcycle. |
Welcome...and thats a clean car
|
hello and welcome from michigan
|
welcome very clean and sharp looking alero. Liking the riviera as well.
|
Welcome, sell me your eurospec headlights, and I will send you my american ones!!!
|

|
Welcome !
|
Welcome to the site.
All your vechiles are clean, I like! Also the AR-39 rims on your Riv, I love those rims, too bad they stopped making them :( |
Welcome!... Lovin the headlights.. i am tryin to make my own clear reflector. That speedo is different, very clean with no miles on it.
Olds badging in the front... chevy in the back!! Nice cars man! |
i see no difference in the euro headlights and mine lol
|
they have a clear reflector, not a lack of a reflector
plus the amber on the second light from the outside is an actual built in lense, not reflection from an amber bulb |
lol just clear ours and use leds to manipulate whatever you like lol no need to trade ;)
|
Thanks everyone!
I did not know that those American Racings were called AR-39? I just took them off and put on some steelies with original hubcaps. I have put them up for sale. They wouldn't fit the Alero would they? They are 5x5 8J 15 inch. sorry for putting the introduction topic here! Is there an Admin that can move it to the appropriate section? Thanks! |
come to ass :)
|
nice and clean, or thats a really good camera:P what brand of camera did you use?
|
Welcome, nice cars and bike!

^^^^Yea your right on that one. |
Welcome to the site. Both of your cars and the bike look nice. Also what part of the Netherlands are you from if you don't mind me asking. The reason I ask is because I have a friend that lives in Amsterdam.
|
welcome to the site.
|
AR-39 stands for American Racing 39. I think the 39 is the model number. they haven't made them for years.
a 5x5 bolt pattern will NOT fit the Alero. The Alero bolt pattern is 5 x 114.3 with a +40mm offset. If you can find rims that are 5 x 4.50 (which I think is a Ford RWD pattern) with the correct offset/backspacing they'll fit |

?????? 5 x 115 |

Meh same thing |
I live in the middle actually, near Utrecht. Amsterdam is approx. 60 miles from where I live.
As to what camera I have used, it is a Canon Ixus75. and I must say, the circumstances for the photoshoot where not that ideal as it comes to lightning and such. Usually they are even better looking. Thanks all for the warm welcome! I already learned a lot from this site and all its posts. |
Ageain from Michigan
Welcome! Whats the diffrence between euro-spec headlamps and just clearing your corners? |
- The white reflectors.
- The type of bulb for Low beam is H7 and not 9006 - The turnsignal has an orange lense within the lense. This is what I've learned here sofar. |
So I got to say welcome to the page, myself.
Nice to see some from the netherlands. In the Motor-talk forum we also have a alero driver from the netherlands. Really nice car, pretty clean interior. But a 2.4L with a rearspoiler? Cool. You mentioned the foglights givin average light. Look if there is some moisture building up inside. My intend to do this every couple month. Before I fixed them. Greets Julian, near Stuttgart :) |
Thnx for the tip! Will follow up on that one, the moment the weather is a bit more friendly over here......it just snowed about 5 inches again......I hate that!
|
Is it possible to order the euro-spec headlights from a dealer over here? because I would really like to have a set of those.

If u tell me where I should look for the part numbers on them, I can post them here. I am replacing my rear speakers tomorrow, and can take a look at the lights if you'd like? |
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong on this, but I think its on the front of the headlight if its not there it might be on the top of the headlight or you might have to take it out of its assembly to find it. I can't find out right now because I have about 5 to 6 in. of snow plus about an inch of ice sitting on top of my car right now and I don't remember what the part number was from when they were replaced a few years back. If you would look though and find it that would be great much appreciated.
|
IF you do.
Look on these plastic caps, that protect the bulb sockets. These caps are PITA to find. And I cant find a part number for 'em Seems like the US HL dont have these. Thanks |
No prob, I will check both things tomorrow and post my findings here.
And if you guys ever take the foglights out, can you let me know what the bezel part number is for the drivers side? The little plastic thing next to the fog light, that fills up the hole. Thanks! |

Kann ich dir nicht sagen, meins fehlt schon seit dem ich das Auto vor Jahren gekauft hab. Sorry |
am I the only one to that noticed that it is an European Alero that is not sold under the chevrolet badge?
I thought all Euro Alero were Chevrolet? Was this one imported?? |
it wasnt until after a few years that they put a chevy badge on it from my understanding
|

If you look at the rear of the car you can see the Chevrolet badge instead of the Oldsmobile. The Euro Alero's had the Olds badge on the front and the steering wheel up to a certain model year and then when they realized a lot of the people buying them didn't know what the Olds badge meant they changed it to a Chevy badge on the front along with the one that was already on the back. The Olds badge on the steering wheel still remained I do believe regardless of the model year. |
