I will admit..

The reason why I really don't do too much on my car is because it has so many miles on it lol..

sleepyalero 02-26-2013 05:22 AM

I've got 181k miles... I still mod.

Ion is over 200k with a turbo..

03Sleepr 02-26-2013 12:11 PM

I've got 245k (on the body)

[ion] C2 02-26-2013 02:13 PM

ya it's no biggie

03gxeco 02-26-2013 02:28 PM

ion... i hate you.. just kidding. i can has your car?

Nas Escobar 02-26-2013 02:36 PM

Mileage is just a number. What really matters is how the car is driven and taken care of. I put 30,000 miles on my Grand Am the first year I got it, but most of it is Capital Beltway miles. The car spends most of it's time doing 55-70, and in the 1500-2500 band.

I use synthetic oil, change it every 10,000 miles (well I did pay double the price of conventional, it usually lasts double the time as conventional.), make sure everything is in tip top shape. Basically, my point is take care of the car, and it will take care of you. The only things I had to fix on my car is the fuel pump and the brakes, which have been sort of a drama story with me.

DeeJayy 02-26-2013 05:42 PM

Well when I got my car, nothing really has changed. I had to do the tune up, oil, brakes, rotors, replace radiator, thermostat, ac comp bearing which i still haven't done lol. But pretty much the person before me didn't really take care of it.

03glgold 02-26-2013 07:38 PM

mine is at 160k and fairly quickly climbing but I still have plans for it, albeit not as big as I might have had because I think I am going to keep it as my DD and get a 3400 to make the toy, however if I can get the stuff for the right price supercharged isn't out of the question...Mine hasn't been treated good throughout the entirety of its life, poor oil change record, and it has been run hard its entire life...i bet a good 60-70% of its life has been spent above 90...you start taking care of it, it can still take care of you...Through all that my car has been through the only repairs besides regular maintenance has been replacing my timing and balance chain assemblies, fuel pump, and I have replaced a few sensors...still original suspension (does need replaced), original hubs, original brake calipers and rotors, alternator, etc.

tw0123 02-26-2013 10:27 PM

my newest edition has 384000 km on it and I have cleaned it up and started modding it as well... I cannot handle a stock alero anymore!!! im addicted to them :)

Nas Escobar 02-27-2013 01:08 AM

WOW that's a lot of miles. When that car has 400,000km then you're gonna have about 300,000 miles.

03glgold 02-27-2013 08:17 AM

your a little off on your conversion...400000km is just below 250k mi

tw0123 02-27-2013 10:34 AM

Lol yupp it's a lot but still not an excuse... worst case i sell my parts to another enthusiasts... i bought everything used so I'm not out a bunch of money... look for the deals... most aftermarket parts hold their used value if you keep the condition... eg : i bought front and rear strutbars for $40... I'll easily sell them for that when i decide to part with them...

billytheman1188 02-27-2013 10:42 AM

Unless your car is a rust bucket then it doesn't matter how many miles you have. I had 160k on my other alero. 140k when i swapped the 3500 in.

tw0123 02-27-2013 01:38 PM

Lol even if it's a rust bucket!! My black coupe looked like swiss cheese when i got it... patched it up modded it and drove it for 2+ years...
Bottom line it boils down to passion for these cars and being frugal with the modifying ... don't buy stuff brand new if you are worried about the car dying... buy used to resell for the same cost... all you will be out is shipping and installation charges if you can't do it yourself!

03Sleepr 02-27-2013 03:02 PM

My truck had 415k and I was still modding, it had 380k when I dropped the 427 in and started killing tires.:posi:...and transmissions, and the rear end..

Even if you bought new, you can always buy another same car and swap it to that.

tw0123 02-28-2013 04:29 PM

^^ this is true as I'm on alero #3... but i still buy used cuz I'm a bargain hunter and parts whore! In my Alero's i have less than $5000 combined... if you know my cars... you know that's a bargain!!!

redaleroboi 02-28-2013 07:24 PM

if we're confessing, the reason why i haven't done a lot of mods is because i don't have insurance and i'm scared of being pulled over lol

Get insurance. If I was to get in a wreck with you I would be effing pissed, you choosing to drive without insurance is irresponsible and selfish. If anything I would get thrown in jail for beating the eff out of you.

Think of it this way, you hit some widow with 3 kids working two jobs just to put food on the table, and now she's out of a car and her only means of transportation, could you sleep at night knowing you just effed someone's life up?

03glgold 02-28-2013 08:39 PM

get insurance...that isn't cool, I know it can be expensive and seem a little unnecessary however what happens if you hit somebody

tw0123 02-28-2013 11:03 PM

makes me wanna go bat the car so he cant drive it... then he would have to pay for it to get fixed instead of just calling the cops and insurance to cover damages... cops will take a report then laugh at him with no insurance and probably charge him for not having it... soo... who's in to join?? lol

NO INSURANCE!?! Even if you don't want your car covered, you NEED liability insurance. If you killed someone in an accident, the party could sue you for everything you have. Then, most likely file for bankruptcy and that's a lot worse than paying a little bit each month.

03glgold 02-28-2013 11:12 PM

I don't wanna take his stupidity out on his car though, it isn't the cars fault that he is a dumbass...I will go along to help knock some sense into him though

redaleroboi 03-01-2013 03:17 AM

i don't have a job, so i can't afford it right now.

redaleroboi 03-01-2013 03:17 AM

you can try

Nas Escobar 03-01-2013 03:20 AM

Here's my thing... IDK how other states work because my car is registered in Virginia....

Doesn't the insurance offer or mandate "uninsured" insurance? As in you make a claim to your own insurance when the other driver was uninsured?

That's how it is in Virginia. You HAVE to get 25/50/20 and you also get that benefit of "uninsured motorists" insurance. My insurance said that it comes with the policy, but apparently the state mandates I pay for it -____-

But anyways, if "Ill" stands for Illinois, insurance minimum isn't that high. It's less than VA and that's a lax state when it comes to insurance. Shop around... get one of those random small insurance companies if you have to. There's a lot of offers to be had out there if you look for em.

Or look for a state sanction insurance company. I know Maryland has that, you might have it in yourstate. They might be able to workwith you.

cavaliers60 03-01-2013 04:53 AM

You all need to calm down... Calling him names and threatening to beat him up and his car is just stupid and unnecessary...

First thing, get a job. even if it's fast food. Get something!

Secondly, get insured. We went with Geico, and only pay $30 a month on the Alero. We just got another car, and insurance only went up about $20 a month. And I believe that's the minimum, full coverage. Liability would be a lot cheaper... So, if you can afford to fill your car up and drive it around with no insurance, you should have the money FOR insurance...

03glgold 03-01-2013 07:49 AM

If you can't afford insurance you park the car until you can...plain and simple, sorry but that is the way that it works

How do you afford gas/food/living expenses?

JLw7123 03-01-2013 09:18 AM

In New Hampshire you do not need car insurance it may sound insane but it is true. I have full coverage on my cars because of that.

That's dumb, I bet full coverage rates are insane there..

However, since he said he was afraid of being pulled over one could safely assume you need insurance in wherever the hell "Ill" is.

03glgold 03-01-2013 09:49 AM

Ill is almost definately Illinois...I still say of you can't afford insurance, then you walk...We have 2 feet for a reason

Walk or take a bus....or carpool. He's def irresponsible. If i didn't have insurance i would NOT be driving.....and if i did and anyone of my family members found out.....i would be in deep shit. lol. He'll learn his lesson soon enough....there's a little thing called karma that catches up to you eventually. I've learned the hard way quite a few times.

Well when I had my alero I was paying 100 bucks a month but with my Subaru I am paying 133 bucks.
