where exactly is the cam shaft located in the v6!? and are there stronger and lighter ones available? and where is the flywheel at? i know its somewhere around the transmission but where? and do they make light weight flywheels for our cars?

look for the starter and you find the flywheel.......(starter starts the car by spinning the flywheel)........as far as the cam I heard our stock one is pretty decent

As of right now the only option we have is a regrind but a cam is in production and has been for a while but if you want to know more, go over to grandamgt.com and in the all go section its sticked to the top of the page. I dont think there is a lighter flywheel for us 3.4 owners.

the first one is an underdrive crank pulley, not a flywheel.

Interesting, anyone know if this works?

well, if you're an auto-tranny owner, you don't have a flywheel at all....you have a flexplate.

I asked about this a while ago

The cam on Manapart is just a stock cam, like the one in the motor already

Hmmmm..... Ours is the 60 degree V6, right? I can't remember what the 3.4L DOHC was, so I may be mixing them up. Anyways, go to www.gmpartsdirect.com and click on the performance tab. If that's our engine listed there, then it looks like there are cam options. Thoughts?

99ALERO 06-28-2004 12:43 AM

there is a great place! They have it right there!

rowdygls 06-30-2004 11:09 AM

i believe we have the 3400 ohv, the 3.4 dohc is a different engine

ok, unless the parts between the 3400 and 3.4 are interchangeable, these are diff engines. the 3.4 ended in 97 and the 3400 took over after that. the 3.4 is considered the LQ1 and 3400 is considered the LA1. i pulled this info off of 60degreev6.com.

3.4Alero 07-01-2004 04:27 PM

That's what I wasn't sure of. I know the parts are not interchangeable, but I was not sure which engine they were talking about on gmpartsdirect.com. All it said was chevy 60 degree V6.

Final-Reality 07-02-2004 02:26 AM

The 3.4 DOHC is part of the 60 degree V6 series as your engine, similiar blocks IIRC but of course different heads and 4 valves/cylinder, but it failed because of lousy cost-cutting measures that made it unreliable and they had to de-tune it a fair bit because they didnt have any transaxles at the time that could hold up too well... and nothing between the 3400 and 3.4 DOHC are interchangable..
