gas cap relocation

heres the deal my gass cap is starting to rust out.

I was talking to abuddy, he wants somthing welded for him and in return I could use his welder.

so i figured why not just relocate it to in side my trunk. has any one done this ?

will it set off any alarms if i change places?

and is it just one solid tube or is there a specail line i'd have to buy..if so whats it caled..how do i connect it to the old one thanks

It can be done, but you better be careful with a welder near a gas tank since it sounds like you'll have no idea what you're doing.

rocker_boy55 07-16-2009 04:58 PM

lol its not the welding im worried about. I weld for somewhat of a living.

Your gas cap or near you gas cap??

clutch1 07-16-2009 09:50 PM

Minitruckers relocate it to the bed all the time.. I don't see why it would be an issue.. just don't spill gas in your trunk, it might get messy, lol.

This really really sounds like a bad idea. The fact that you have rust around the gas cap tells me that you're not that care full when pulling out. Gas will eff up your paint. So if you do move your cap be prepared to drive with your windows down all year round. Never mind if you gas cap goes bad, over night the car fills with gas fumes, you go to open the trunk, sparks happen............death.

i dont know about the pipe going down to the gas tank but i know the gas tank is plastic

rocker_boy55 07-16-2009 11:04 PM

hmm thats a good point about the fumes..im not to worried about the spilling of gas. i had just recently bought the car and all damage had done before hand.

His car was really nice... so was his Ghost Ride video on youtube

That'd be cool if someone dug up some pics of that specific part though, I don't remember ever seeing it.

bdyman 07-17-2009 09:33 AM

he is a funny funny man, his dad has a big ass barn and turned it into one awesome body shop, his dad is cool as hell too i can try to contact him and ask for pics, but he tints windows off the side, so hes always buisy
but ill see what i can dig up for ya guys

pimpalero2003 07-17-2009 12:41 PM

Alex ever sell it?
On my buddys he was going to go into the like water drain thing in trunk. He bought a motor cycyle pop up gas cap the guy that did his paint cut a hole on the very rear of the tire well so it's just sitting there till someone puts a hole in the other side.
If I go out there I'll grab some pics

Blktrax 07-17-2009 12:54 PM

I just wanted to say some thing about the fumes, you could put the tank inside the car and not worry about it. Because our cars are ODBII and have sealed fuel systems (except when refueling). The EVAP system is self contained and pressuized, so no fuems excape. However is the mod is made and it isnt perfect or the welds or hoses used cant stand the pressure, there will be a leak, and or set and SES light.

rocker_boy55 07-17-2009 01:37 PM

hey thats what i am worried about , if I change the hose lengths then in terms wouldnt it change the preasure and theirfore set of lights?

also i had a look at the link http://www.blazerforum.com/forum/sho...d.php?p=189134 and it looked pretty damn sweet but the only thing i could think of is on the truck the light had folded off the side of it were are lights are flush with it surroundings ..and ideas as how i could make it pop out and inch and then flip over so it dosent scratch and bind..say a diffrent hinge

thanks

bdyman 07-17-2009 01:47 PM

alex sold his car to hhis dad, alex never had a problem never had any lights come on, nothing, i just dont remember how he did it, i sent him a text, no repsonse yet but ill see what i can find

rocker_boy55 07-17-2009 01:55 PM
