front door fiberglass speaker pod

alrighty. i will be doing this soon, i got some 6.5" alpine type-r's for Christmas. my question is not how to fiberglass it in, i had a friend that went to school for composites and then worked at a boat company doing things like this, so im ok there. my question is what to cover it in. i figured i would cover it in the same vinyl that was on the door to make it have that stock lookin appearance to it.
and then i found this website

http://www.miamicorp.com/

it has this huge database where you input what vehicle you have, and it shows you what carpet/vinyl came in your car stock.

has anyone tried this company? are they pretty accurate? is there a better place to be getting this stuff?

TIA

it would be cheaper to find some kind of speacialy or hobby shop around you that sells bulk vinyl. then just take in a color sample and pick out your color.

Im not sure I would call it vinyl. Sure at the top it is, but on the sides its like a rubber with a texture on the top...

Whatever you do, if your wanting vinyl you will need a heat moldable kind and the proper know how.

Regular vinyl WILL NOT work, period.

Alternatively you could try paint. I hear SEM has a pain that comes out like vinyl?

definitely need to retry doing this...

i'll have a spare set of doors and speakers to try it on... so why not. spring break maybe. Hopefully i can make them thinner, stronger and not as block-y.

And probably painting them this time.

my main goal is to just get the color to match, not necessarily the rubberiness. i think that's just a small thin foam pad on the back of the vinyl. im not worried about that. and im sure there are videos/ instructions on how to lay vinyl on the internet. i just wanted to know if anyone knew about the quality of vinyl from that site.

I will say this one last time, heat formable vinyl or you are wasting your time.

The upper darker vinyl is separate. Im fairly sure the lower stuff is actually molded rubber of some sort- not a vinyl you can simply pull off the door.

it doesnt look like i can order from that site unless im a dealer.

I was looking at my messed up panel today. I can indeed tell you that the lighter tone on the lower is infact something molded. It is one with the backing- so its not like a vinyl laid over plastic...

white04alero 01-17-2010 03:10 PM

how do you order from that site ryan?
