hi

name: Rob
state: New York., upstate near rochester
im in the process of debating on picking up a 2003 alero gx sedan five speed.
however, i dont know what to look for on them. like things that are usually faulty. i figured the guys on aleromod would be able to help me out a little.
the one im looking at has a new motor from a 2002 saturn l200. because the first engine the timing chain broke and ... well im sure you get the idea. it has 125K miles on the body and about 108K on the motor. tranny is the getrag that came in the alero.
So what should i do here? cars in great shape, and its only 2200 bucks.
are these easy to mess with? im not looking for a fire breathing 4 banger from hell. just a little quicker then the average honda.

5-speed = buy now doesn't matter
haha

Yes they're easy to work on, the 5-speed Ecotec is one of the rarest combinations in an Alero and has the most aftermarket support as well. It will be easy to upgrade and make as quick as you want it eventually.

get it, you wont regret it!

even with the less powerful saturn motor in it? its still an l61 engine, but its the 135hp 142ftlb engine. not sure if he swapped all the alero parts onto the motor maybe it has changed the performance of it. i am going to drive it tomorrow to make sur ei like it. im also in the process of selling a 98 acura integra. which is holding me back from buying the alero

The ecotec engine is capable of being over 1400 hp!
I have it, trust me you will not be disappointed.
Its really reliable and has a lot of aftermarket parts available like C2 said

i test drove it today. there wasnt enough gas for a good drive, just around the parking lot. i like the suspension and steering. the motor is pretty quiet too.
the clutch was weird.. especially after driving an integra out there. he replaced the clutch lines with hydraulic lines i guess the clutch didnt feel right to him before, so he put a new hydraulic set up in. a little odd but okay. i will probbaly have the car by next week. if everything goes well with selling my integra
