Hello from Grand Rapids

Yup another Michigander..er Michiganite.. or is it Michiganian...

At any rate, been using this forum for information for the past couple years.. figured I should finally register and stop lurking in the shadows, lol. I'm now on my second Alero. The first one was a beat up rust bucket black 2000 GX coupe 2.4l auto trans, but ran cherry... til I beat on it too hard one day and it developed a rod knock. The second one I came by the day after killing the first.. looks the same as the first (found that to be ironic and hilarious.. and people didn't believe it was a different car), but this one is a 2001 GX 2.4l 5 spd, with cruise control even! So far the things I've done to the car are mainly repairs..high carbon rotors (old ones were warped), ceramic pads, new hood (old had a nasty scratch down to the metal), trunk lid w/ spoiler (old lid was fine... wanted the spoiler), gotta new left fender I'm puttin that on this weekend. Also this weekend I'm doin oil pan gasket, timing gasket set (incl front main seal), and timing set (not some cheap ebay POS either.. Cloyes). On it's way from ebay: header, strut bars (front and back), and short throw shifter.

Long winded post , I know..lol

Welcome from another Michi-whatever. As always when you get to it, throw us some pictures! Always wanted a 5 speed unit to play with.

There was one very clean one (according to the pictures) on KZoo C.L. for about $1850.00 but the bugger has 200K on it. 2002 IIRC

Too bad I don't have that kind of cash layin around. Picked mine up off C.L. a week before Halloween for $460, it had 211112 miles the day I got it, I'm the second owner it was originally purchased from Grand Olds, all the paperwork is still in the glove box.. heh funny thing is the trunk lid I got from junkyard was from Grand Olds as well! Rust has eaten through the body in front of the rear wheels, I plan on cleaning that up and patching it this summer, other than that it has been pretty well taken care of. It was a steal for the price, the guy just needed it gone asap. I'll try to get some pics up soon. Yes they are kind of addicting, but that's Oldsmobile in general.

Thanks for the welcomes!

I'm from grand rapids as well! Waiting to find the right alero to swap my 3.5 lx9 and f-40 6-speed in!

That is a hard find.. I'm thinking I'm gonna have to import a good shell from outside of the rust belt. One thing I don't understand.. The big three design and build their vehicles in states that think salt is the cure all for everything, and yet still they are designed for a perfect world where water, dirt, sun, and any other oxidizers don't exist. I replaced my left front fender today, I pulled out about three pounds of frozen dirt that was caked behind it.... alas, such as the disposable society the world has become.

And by the way, if your trunk latch breaks and your trunk is stuck closed, it is a royal PITA to get it open to replace said latch. However once open the latch only takes a few minutes to replace.

As requested here's a pic (at night though, I'll get a daytime pic soon after it gets a wash) I have different wheels for it, charcoal and silver Enkei's I got from junkyard off a GASE, just need to get some good rubber on them. The rims on it are from previous owner. Still not sure if I like them, sometimes I do, other times not so much. Have no clue what make/model they are, as there's no brand markings on them.
