cherrington17 04-05-2006 05:58 PM

my first thought is.... why???

the 3400 isn't a really powerful engine (v6 wise)
its not easy to mod.... why!?!?

eag182 04-05-2006 06:08 PM

because it fits rather easily thats why

SilverBullet256 04-05-2006 06:42 PM

yes, the 3400 is definately an upgrade from their stock engines, and yes it is possibly to use the manuals from those cars, but the only problem is its easier to bolt the engine into their bay then bolt their trans mission in ours, otherwise it would be extremely easy and alot of people would do it

and if i remember correctly, they came with the 3.1 dohc but the 3400 holds together better and is a newer engine and relatively cheap and easy to drop in

NO its not. Same engine maybe but the complete drivetrain is not from an alero.

I want to know how the tranny is hooked up, and which one it is

they had manuals with 3100's?

SilverBullet256 04-06-2006 05:56 PM

no, read my post, i said its not the 3100 its the 3.1 dohc, not the same engine, and the transmission is the one that came in the z-24's and the beretta's, stock tranny for the car, with our rngine dropped in

oh, never seen the 3.1 dohc :(

just the super cool 3.4 dohc >_>

SilverBullet256 04-07-2006 03:40 PM

it was just a smaller bore version of the 3.4 like hwo the 3100 is compared to our engines, and besides, havent you ever seen a z-24 or a lumina that had the 3.1 v-6 badge on the front?

Cliff8928 04-08-2006 04:38 AM

For one, the only DOHC V6 of years past was the 3.4 in the W-Bodies.

Most of the people with the 3400 swaps have replaced either 3.1 or 2.8 engines

usually the trans of choice is the Muncie 282 which was originally bolted to the old engine. That's what mine had, later changed with a '94 version of that trans, the TVG T550 (uses internal throw-out and slave assembly, much better pedal feel)

And no FWD GM V6 with a manual trans was available from 1995-2005

1) ease of install.

2) may not be that powerfull stock but it is capable of lots

3) not easy to mod if you never look around i guess
