really bad start with my 99 alero

i have a 2.4 alero and for the past 5 months or so everytime i start my car it drags really bad like its just not getting any gas to it. the person that owned the car before me broke the quick disconnect off the fuel filter so i have used an ez clamp from walmart to keep the fuel line on my fuel filter it doesnt seem to be leaking or making any more of a problem then a quick disconnect would but when the car starts you can smell gas outside of it from both the engine and the exhaust. i have no idea what it could be or how severe it could be. it just drags the engine for about 15 to 20 seconds before it actually decides to start. maybe someone can help me figure this problem out before i have to take it to a mechanic. thank you

I would say take it to a mechanic. Though I don't have a 2.4, I think you might have possibly collapsed the line, or are choking it a bit. But, when it comes to fuel, smelling it when it starts up, and the 'dragging... get it fixed.

IF you smell raw gas, you got a leak, get it fixed ASAP

duurrrrhhhhhhh.....

i think the walmart clamp was a great idea. you know, since messing with how an engine functions isnt a big deal or anything.
get it fixed before it turns major and cost you lotsa $$$$$$$$

maintainance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you smell unburned gas get it fixxed or buy a lot of life insurance. You could try to pinpoint about where the leak might be yourself. (don't do something stupid like try to weld it though lol)

if that line is broken go to the dealership and purchase a new line, it goes to the fuel tank at the top.
