Threw a SES Code
 

Today my service engine light came on. I took it to a shop and them plugged it into the computer and came up with a code that said "Fuel too rich, Bank 1?" The mechanic shut the light off and said if it comes back on again to bring it back and they check the O2 sensors and other stuff. Have anyone else threw this code and if so what did ya have to do to fix it?

Do you have any sort of intake or anything on your car? I got that when I switched from CAI to WAI

Yeah, i do have a cold air intake but its been on the car for over a year and this is the first time the light has come on.

I had bank 1 go out on me. I just replaced it. I think I paid 25 bux for the new O2 sensor. I did not like putting it in tho.

bank 1? you mean bank 1 sensor 1? the other option is bank 1 sensor 2. i dont know what kind of sensor you got for 25 bux but when i had to replace my upstream it was 85 bux.

I had to replace mine, as I was getting that code also shortly after I installed headers. Replaced the upstream sensor, and yeah, it should be around $75-$90 for a reputable one. If the code comes back, it's likely that it just needs replaced. Not a big project either, just do it when the engine is cold.

Okay so where exactly is this sensor located at and how hard is it to put in? If i put one in should I put the other in new also?

the can be replaced individually. the upstream is between the cat converter and the motor.

it's a generic fuel trim malfunction - lean on bank 1

Causes

A code P0171 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

• The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters (K&N, etc.) can cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled
• There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor.

Possible Solutions

Possible solutions include:

• In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling <LI nd="9">Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
• Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure

Yeah but it's up there. The car will have to be cold or you risk burning yourself and a lift will help you out more.
