00' Alero

Just got my alero a few weeks back and Have been doing research. I've done some searching and some reading on here but I still have questions.

I'm running the 2.4L and I'm still trying to figure out which transmission is in it.

The thing is a little sluggish shifting if I floor it. It will hit 7000 RPMs no problem and still not shift, which is not good. I let it dies down a little earlier than that and when it is 5000 I push the gas again and it usually shifts. Why is that? It only seems to do it when I start my run so maybe 1st and second gear. Any help would be nice? I didnt flush the system when I changed the tranny fluid and filter because the fluid inside was still pretty clean.

I am considering swapping the secret cams from the 2.3L. How hard is it to do? Will i need to remove the engine? Stupid question I know but I'm not sure if this a DOHC engine or not.

Do headers (dyno tested preferablly) have a very large HP/torque boost?

WAI/CAI? Which is better, I personally think a CAI makes more sense but dyno tests don't lie.

different throttle body worth it?

What are some other ways I can make this faster that is actually going to work. Don't have the money to do forced induction so that is out of the question.

I know this is a lot for my first post lol but I did as much research as a could on my own before coming back for the post.

Thanks

Also I should point out that as far as passing emissions that is not a problem where I live. No emissions testign FTW

well to answer your first question the tranny in the 2.4l is a 4T40E second the 2.4 is a twin cam. i think that the CAI is better than the WAI.

the_weber 04-22-2011 12:25 AM

I know its a twin but are they OHC? and whats the average 0-60 time for a stock 2.4? Mine is 10. Which I KNOW is not right. Something is wrong there.

yes it is a DOHC

the_weber 04-22-2011 12:35 AM

Ok thank you. sO I shouldnt need to remove the engine to do a cam swap?

AZFire316 04-22-2011 01:34 AM

twin cam pushrod...is there such an engine?

the_weber 04-22-2011 01:56 AM

I was referring to this. Way to assume

AZFire316 04-22-2011 02:30 AM

I had a Maxima that used to do that, not good, transmission went out like 2 months later.

the_weber 04-22-2011 02:32 AM

its only when I floor it. But im prfepared to replace the transmission if I have to.

AZFire316 04-22-2011 02:35 AM

like it will bounce off the rev limiter in 1st?

the_weber 04-22-2011 02:40 AM

no. no rev limiter. nothing. If I dont let off the gas it will hit redline and keep going. Im not sure where it stops because I always stop it at 5000. Shifts kind of hard.

AZFire316 04-22-2011 02:42 AM

no codes?

the_weber 04-22-2011 02:50 AM

none. The car runs flawlessly. Just shifts weird.

AZFire316 04-22-2011 02:55 AM

did it start after the service?

Redog 04-22-2011 02:59 AM

Check the trans fliud?

Shift Soilnoid?

Try getting it scaned anyway, sometimes the code doesn't show up on the dash. It's in a "pending" status

I know it sounds weird, but my car has done that for O2 sensors ;)

Redog theres a reason no one else important has jumped in on this thread. This thread is useless.

1. There's no reason to be hitting 7000rpm.
2. You haven't done jack sh!t in research obviously
3. You don't have the money to do forged induction but u have the money to replace ur trans?
4. What don't you get about TWIN cam? Twin means 2. Yes its a "D"OHC (DUAL = 2)

yes... but its his car and im sure hes just testing it out. and the way i look at it is he was just making sure the car ran great... even with the peddle to the floor just incase sometime he needed to go that heavy into it to make sure that it would not hesitate/have problems.

like today for me.. i was pulling out on a busy road.. cars doing about 60 both ways... and there is a little gap between cars that are coming both ways.. so i gun it knowing ill make it and pull out because... the traffic never ends... so when there is a small opening you take it. and i floored the car and didnt have problems.

thats just the way i see it. i say atleast he's being observant... he could drive like a grandma and never go that high into the rpms then one day maybe have tranny problems and not know why because it ran fine driving like a grandma.... but obviously there is something not right on how the car is acting.

and chris, im not trying to call you out.. im just saying.

way to be a douche bag...
it's pretty clear he's having trans problems under WOT
he obviously has done some research if he knows about secret cams...
it's forced induction not forged...wtf is wrong with you?
and he knew it was dual cams...he didn't know if it was OHC which for us is basic but he's new cut him some effing slack you were a noob yourself once...

/rant

edit: and to answer one of the OP's questions, 10 secs 0-60 is pretty normal for stock, i was seeing like 9.8 with my LD9 IIRC
