i took apart my headlights but i cant get the crome piece out, all it says in the how to FAQ is "heat this up" it doesnt say any way to remove it, im stuck, can someone tell me how to take the crome piece out so i can get to the orange reflector. :pissed:

You gotta heat it until the glue starts to melt. You have to get it too the point were you can't hardly touch it with your hands and gently pry it apart.

-Alero- 06-27-2004 04:36 PM

hmmph alright, i guess i'll try that

bulldogpants 06-27-2004 04:36 PM

just put a screw driver in there and pry it till it snaps apart. then when u reassemble it.. just use a good amount of the silicon sealent to glue it back together and ull be fine

the crome peice that is glued together with the clear plastic, doesnt seem to wanna budge, if i apply any more force to it, no matter how hot it is, i know for a fact it will break......heat isnt even helping, the silicone around it is a liquid......and i know the plastic is about to melt, and i keep burning myself lol, i need help..... :(

leroBob 06-27-2004 05:03 PM

ay when i did it i thought the same way then i got so irritated i said to hell with it and gave it hell fo rabout 5 seconds snd it went pop it will seem like it's about to brake, but won't their was one more difficult than the others i forget which one tho.

jamcllw 06-27-2004 05:04 PM

I'm not sure what to tell you. I've done 2 sets now and each time I just heated it up until I needed gloves to touch it and just pryed it apart.
Good Luck!

bulldogpants 06-27-2004 05:31 PM

like bob said......... if u just pry till it pops u will be fine......... its makes a clean break so there is nothing really to worry about

-Alero- 06-27-2004 06:30 PM

k i got one headlight finished, now im starting on the other one........this takes so long  by the way how long does it take new silicone to dry?

streetg1202 06-27-2004 06:32 PM

how long did it take you to take the main piece apart? how long did u apply the heat?

-Alero- 06-27-2004 07:06 PM

took me an hour and a hlaf to get the main piece aprat.... and i applied alot of heat.......and it was all just a matter of wiggling..... and wedging  , very time consuming for me considering this is the first time ive done this

streetg1202 06-27-2004 07:21 PM

yea i tried on Fri.. i spent lyk 30 min doin one part.. and said heck with it.. put it back.. not working.. but took u hour and a half.. so guess ima try again soon <_<

-Alero- 06-27-2004 08:46 PM

i finally finished........i worked from 3:00 pm till about 9:00 pm, and i still have to clean off all the residue on my headlights.... but it looks good

-Alero- 06-27-2004 08:51 PM

i cut myself at least `4 times and burned myself 11, and theres enough blood, skin, and silicone to say it was all worth it :smokin:

bnight04 06-27-2004 09:12 PM

post some pics..........

when i did mine it was a bitch to start out but the 2nd one flew by

bulldogpants 06-27-2004 09:14 PM

i can do a pair in 20 minutes

just cant be scared to break it........ cause it wont. and if u bunny something up the sealant will fix it up real quick

-Alero- 06-27-2004 11:55 PM

i put some glue i nthe plastice to replace the crome piece and the front clear piece, and i stood it up to dry, and the dam glue drizzled down into the headlight part, and theres no way to get rid of it so i kind bunny'd up......and the sealant cant fix that, but other than that i'll get some picks of my car soon enough ;)

FormulaNERD 06-28-2004 12:48 AM

i didnt glue the chrome piece back in, when you put the headlights back together it holds it in place

and as far as getting the chrome piece out, just some sort of cutting tool, or a dremel to eat away at the glue... works faster than heat/prying

streetg1202 06-28-2004 05:47 PM

oh man.. took 2 hrs.. but got my driver's side of the corner CLEARED! hahaha okay so about this silicone.. i just heated up the old one in there and let it kinda melt and put it together with bit of super glue.. is it gonna give me a big problem?

streetg1202 06-28-2004 05:56 PM

on to the next....
