Suggestions for new amplifier

My old sound stream amp finally went out on me. I was hoping some of you could give me some links from crutch field on a good amp to power my one 12 in infinity sub. Don't want anything super loud...prob like 400 watts. I just don't know which brands are good now and which aren't plus the whole mono, 2 channel, 4 channel thing confuses me. Don't know much about car audio obviously ;)

Thank you in advance!

Kicker amp. Or sony xplod imo. I used sony xplod amp on two 12 in kickers. It pounded.

First of all, what price are you looking to spend? And if you are just powering a sub, go with a monoblock amp.

An Alpine MRP-M500 would be a good amp and you should be able to get it for under $100. I wouldn't recommend going with anything you can get from Walmart such as Boss audio, dual, xplod. The cooling in those amps are terrible and will easily overheat in the summer.

I never had a problem with my xplod for 3 years. Got it from best buy.

Its like 6 years old now been in about 4 different cars in all kinds of climates. (My buddy now owns it)

Still works for him no problem.

anyone around you know how to rebuild amps? there is a guy around here that does it for around $75-100 depending on what is wrong with it... you could look into having your beloved sound stream rebuilt and save a bunch of hassles of trying to find something you like that's comparable...

edit: youtube video... do it yourself!!

should get the Polk 12's in an enclosure for $150 at fry's then get a Kenwood monoblock Kenwood 8105d there also.

Just for Future reference these amps are really good...at least the one I had a few years back was awesome and you get the bang for the buck. I think Ryan from Ohio recommended these years ago and I'm glad he did...anyway here is the link. Looks like updated versions of the one I use to have...600watts rms bridged is nice...indeed.

Prolly adding nothing new to this, but you have one sub, just get a good monoblock amp that's good at 4 ohms and you can add an extra sub with no issues. I have a Sony Xplod... don't like it much, but it does the job real good. Had it for almost a year, and has seen 3 cars so far. It resides in my Camaro as of now. It powers a kicker solo baric, and it's overpowering it by 150-200 watts.

Kenwood makes good amps, you can find them overstocked on ebay for $100 or so. Other than that, Alpine or Kicker are the way to go. Easy to use, nice features, no bullshit.
