you're not going to drown out the lyrics if you have an aftermarket hu that is capable of putting out enough power to make your highs high, your mids mid, and your lows low. also, if you buy 5.25 components and set up the crossovers right, everything will be perfectly in proportion.

very true... i have all stock speakers, aftermarket hu, and 2 10x audiobahns (1000rms each) 2000max... each sub is getting 1000rms... if anyone has heard my setup, they can tell you it sounds great.. nothing is drowned out (pimpalero03, evilnside)

thats just my opinion, i tried like you guys did and it wasnt enough lyrics for me, and my alpine hu was putting out 60x4...to each their own i guess

heh.. either you like A LOT of highs or.. i dunno wasn't setup right? beats me.. i actually turned mine back a bit from my original settings cause it seemed like it was a bit to much... everyone has their own likes though.. but i generally do like to be able to hear my highs good and not have it drowned by lows.. i hate when people do that and actually like it

havic: I just installed a similar system in my car, good choice of speakers!

1 12" infinity perfect
kappa 4x6 2ways
kappa 6x9 2ways (still don't know how to get the old stock speakers out)
rockford 301x 40x4 rms

i'm using a rockford 351m for my sub, which gives it ~350rms.
If you're gonna get two subs, you'll need a much bigger amp.

for your wiring kit, get a multi-amp wiring kit if you can find one at a good price:
they usually come with 4ga power, 8ga power & ground, and a distribution block.
I got a monster cable kit, but i think most brands have these kits.

also, about the hu vs amp thing, i think with the 4x6's a head unit will have enough power, but if you're really into loud highs or you're going to replace your rears, get a 4 ch amp.

good luck with the system

I want an overall, well-rounded system (like nearly everyone else does :D)

Thanks for all the info everyone, I'll put it to good use

Even if I get a sweet hu, I'll still hook up a set of speakers to an amp, because I know these subs pound and I don't plan on stopping at what I've detailed thus far.
