New Ignition switch + lock cylinder
Hey guys.
Well my 2003 Alero finally joined the ranks of a lock cylinder that wont turn and a failing ignition switch. Ordered both parts off rockauto.com for $173 with next day shipping! The local stores wanted $300 for the pair. I got an airtex/wells switch and tumbler. So that's my project for the weekend. Anyone got any tips on how to change it? |
I should add that the new cylinder cones with keys

I'm getting my parts today so any help would be useful. Thanks

Installing everything tomorrow. Sure will be nice to start it without fighting the lock cylinder

Well took my dash apart and replaced my lock cylinder and switch. Just sitting here going through the passlock program procedure. Wasn't hard at all to put in. Even took the time to clean my cluster with some invisible glass.

Passlock procedure was easy! Car starts faster and runs better than ever before. I bought it used with 133k on it. So happy I don't have to fight with the ignition switch to start my car anymore

how does it run better?

Runs like it has a little more pep to it. Accelerates faster. I also noticed an improvement in my gas mileage. I may be nutts but my sound system (aftermarket) seems like its louder too. It idles smoother and I noticed last night the dash lights are brighter. It also starts a lot faster - less cranking. I thought about doing a resistance test on the old switch. All I can think is one of the circuits in it had a high resistance. My lock cylinder and switch were in pretty rough shape. It's kinda like when you replace a dying battery in a modern vehicle. It gives the car a little more step to it. |
