Airtex waterpump

Any thoughts on these? I can get one on rockauto for 15 bucks and I believe they make decent fuel pumps.

And you can get the ACDelco for $5 more. Why not get that one?

Thought about that too but being I am getting a new belt tensioner, belt, and idler it will cost more with shipping. Is the delco one that much better? I read somewhere that the replacement delco ones are no good

Opinions on these things tend to be all over the place! Having said that, if I were mail ordering mine I'd probably get a Gates.

I used to trust AC Delco until I got some brake parts that were built wrong..and most of the parts aren't made in America anymore so I don't think the quality is the same as it once was. I still buy AC Delco parts sometimes, but they may not always be my first choice.

I've bought ToughOne parts before... they're pretty good. I would recommend them.

Thanks for all the replies. Anyone have experience with airtex. The impeller looks different than stock

they still have to follow specs and quality checks like anything else that's manufactured

many OEM parts come from mexico or elsewhere

The Tough One water pump for the V6 is assembled in USA. I'll take some pics and upload them when I get the chance.

I think the water pump design changed for 2002 or 2003. Early units used a cast impeller; later units had a stamped steel impeller.

Mine is an early 2003 and it has the cast impeller.

It's been so long ago since I replaced the water pump I don't remember what brand I used. Sometimes there are design differences between brands but the impeller should be fine.

I do my best to buy American parts. If this TPP gets thru Congress, you can kiss American parts good-bye

03Alerosil 01-14-2014 07:46 PM

I try to buy american parts too.

03Alerosil 01-14-2014 08:50 PM

Seen a tru flow one at napa. New it's 20 bucks. Any experience with these? I have always had good luck with napa parts but never used a pump from them

03Alerosil 01-15-2014 07:56 AM

Decided to go with the Ac/Delco one at rockauto. Cant beat $20 for factory parts. especially something as critical as a waterpump.

From what I can tell, some use a cast impeller, and some use a stamped impeller. The Tough One from AA that I saw had a stamped impeller. I have no idea if it makes any difference, except maybe in how much it weighs.

Sure thing. If it hadn't been done before I would do I write up on it

zzyzzx 01-15-2014 11:34 AM

I found 2 writeups, complete with pics in a Grand Am forum. I referenced them in my water pump thread here:
http://www.aleromod.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37682

What I was wanting from you was pics of the pump and box it came in. Those might be useful to other people here.

That and I am still investigating exactly why type of thread locker to use and where. I will probably get the pump today and read through the instructions that come with it and the Factory Service Manual just to see what they say.
