AED Bumper Repair

I ended up meeting a large raccoon the other night... 4 major stress cracks and a few other minor ones (hope they are cracks in the paint). Off to the body shop to see what the damage is and if it is repairable.

tw0123 09-02-2014 12:51 PM

Oh no!!!! I hope you can repair it.... such a rare kit that flows so well on your car.... good luck!

NoSweat83 09-02-2014 03:53 PM

Thanks man! I just dropped the front bumper off at the body shop. The guy I talked to was sure that it could be fixed, but their fiberglass guy was out and will be back tomorrow. Will get more info on how they want to process, not to mention a quote.

keep us updated, I have one as well that needs glass work, I am just wondering how much your repair will be.

Do you have pics?

Papa Rad17 09-02-2014 06:13 PM

You must keep it alive! keep us updated.

The shop has to do some sanding to see how bad some areas really are. I"ll post the quote with a few pics once I get it so you have an idea.

Rad she isn't going anywhere. To much time and money invested at this point. I just need to be able to enjoy it long enough to put some miles on it.

NoSweat83 09-05-2014 08:08 AM

I have an early day at the office today and will try to post pics later. The shop has a labor rate of $60/hr (which isn't bad) and they are estimating between 10-15 hours to repair. If you could buy a new front fascia, it would have been $750 plus shipping anyway. This puts me right there without having to add any additional cost for fitting and is much better than I was anticipating. :)

Papa Rad17 09-05-2014 09:20 AM

Good! it shall live on.

tw0123 09-05-2014 09:28 AM

I guess that's good news.... still sucks that you have to go through that but as mentioned you'd be in almost the same position if you were starting over with a new one.... does that 10-15 hrs include repainting and blending the paint to match?

I'm glad to see you're getting it fixed and not giving up like some have in the past! Good show :)

NoSweat83 09-05-2014 10:14 AM

Nope. That's just repair. Paint will be additional.

I wouldn't give up on her now. Too much time and money invested. Plus, she is still breaking in at less than 34,000 miles lol.

tw0123 09-05-2014 10:32 AM

Hot damn that's low miles! Get get out and drive man hahaha! I can't say much though I have only put 3000 miles on my car in the last 5 years.... but she's over 100000 miles already...

Been using it as a front lawn ornament? I mean, I would rather than take it raccoon hunting  But yes its great to see you repairing especially considering the rarity of the kit at this point. not to mention the overall sexiness of the car.

NoSweat83 09-05-2014 03:17 PM

Lol! I always seem to be working on it instead of driving it. The plan for this year was to drive it instead of working on it but, I went hunting instead.

Here are a few pics of how it looked before I took the fascia off. There were a few other areas that needed attention along with these, as the cracks went through the glass.

sleepyalero 09-05-2014 03:54 PM

Must have been a big bitch haha. I hit a raccoon once. Took out my stock driver foglight :(

Which then led me to LED fogs. Which I like much better.

cavedewler 09-05-2014 08:53 PM

Not bad at all, mine is a lot worse. I bought the kit off a guy here years ago and he cut one of the side skirts up a few times for SOME STRANGE REASON, LOL. Who knows why.

The front fascia is cracked in so many places I need to really do some research before I attempt my repair.

NoSweat83 09-10-2014 02:10 PM

The shop says that it might be done Friday. Which means I could actually take it out for a drive next week after the paint gets some cure time.

tw0123 09-10-2014 02:51 PM

That's awesome man! Coming along quick! Really makes me wish I had more time to work on mine....

NoSweat83 09-10-2014 08:09 PM

Quicker than I expected. Hope that it doesn't lack the quality. Time is something that is always in short supply. I feel your pain. Would start a project and never had time to finish it. This is why my car has low miles and it just needs to see some road time.

Papa Rad17 09-10-2014 11:30 PM

True, but look at the fruits of your efforts! and Tim yours if well on the way.
