B888's Track Video 3
Beech Bend Raceway Park, Bowling Green, KY, 11/06/2010, 50 degrees F.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlP3J0StdQQ M&H Racemaster 8.5 x 24.5 slicks, 28 lb. injectors, base fuel pressure set at 58. These tires are a different animal than the 7.5 x 23 slicks I used last year ... giving up some gear ratio. After viewing the video, I think I can safely drop a few more psi. Starting out with 19-20 lb pressure. Full exhaust, air filter bypassed. 12:33 PM Car#-----B888 R/T------.108 60'-----1.917 330-----5.421 1/8-----8.362 MPH-----81.92 1000----10.957 1/4-----13.187 MPH-----100.54 Notes: launched at about 1500, got KR in all gears, more when auto shifted to 3rd -- only 12* net advance in 3rd gear....either lost fuel delivery in last 2 seconds of run, or PCM pulled fuel... 1:29 PM Car#-----B888 R/T------.172 60'-----2.155 330-----5.687 1/8-----8.593 MPH-----84.71 1000----11.112 1/4-----13.295 MPH-----100.08 Notes: Looking back at the scan on this one is scary as hell...launched at 2100 -- got wheelspin, PCM cut fuel at beginning and end of track, but huge KR spike at very end of run....Intake manifold temperature near #1 cylinder spiked 30 degrees (backfire?)...engine died at end of track turn-out. If there is engine damage, this is the run that probably did it... 2:43 PM Car#-----B888 R/T------.165 60'-----2.505 330-----6.113 1/8-----9.058 MPH-----83.38 1000----11.652 1/4-----13.870 MPH-----101.11 Notes: Launched at 900, still got wheelspin, forgot "trac off" switch, totally botched run... 3:16 PM Car#-----B888 R/T------.203 60'-----1.908 330-----5.395 1/8-----8.296 MPH-----86.15 1000----10.846 1/4-----13.111 MPH-----94.83 Notes: this one's a heartbreaker... best ever 60 ft. time, best ever 1/8 mile E.T. and 1/8 mile MPH.... but PCM pulled the plug in last 2 seconds of run (see 1/4 MPH) -- not only timing but cut off injectors -- suspect trans abuse mode or fuel delivery....launched at 1100, but had to back off throttle due to wheelspin... should have been a 12.9xx run.... Video: 3:51 PM Car#-----B888---------9351 R/T------.115---------.286 60'-----1.990--------1.596 330-----5.521--------4.337 1/8-----8.446--------6.580 MPH-----84.23--------109.92 1000----10.996-------8.533 1/4-----13.165-------10.215 MPH-----103.63-------132.93 Notes: Raised base fuel pressure to 62....launched at 1000, on/off the throttle twice during launch... did better at end of track as far as KR than previous run... used different trans technique... best ever 1/4 mile MPH. And that is 302 races, 297 on the 1/4 mile. Damage report in a few days.......:) |
wow man, I think that last one could have had you in the 12's if not for the injector cut.
Just as an FYI, I have injector cut disabled (disable zero injectors) on all my trans abuse tables. Can't afford the engine to nuke under boost. For that matter, I also have injector cut on my RPM/speed limiters set slightly above my shift RPM @ WOT as well. This way, there's no possibility of injector disable at any point other than a slipping trans. Nice runs for sure :) |
Nice.... defenetly would of been on the 12s. Are you trying race gas at all???

Yeah, thanks, I am going to look into adjusting the other tables now, and I have always had the rpm limiter set to 7000. So it's most likely a trans abuse mode is triggering the cuts. I did find one obscure trans table : "WOT Shift RPM vs. Shift - Hot," which stock is set to force a 3-to-4 upshift at 4490 RPM ( for "Transmission hot mode shift speeds" ). This seems to be the point that the limiting occurred, so I will set it to 5600. Of course, a better solution in that case is just to put the shifter in 3rd gear and leave it there. :) In between gears there is a lot of potential for slippage. Quote:
I haven't tried race gas in a few years. If it's available I may throw some in. Another thing is I stepped up the fuel pressure above 60 for the last run. Set at about 58, the fuel trims zero out when the IFR is set to 28, which is the injectors rating. That's good, but going any higher on the fuel pressure has consequences for drivability, and the Fuel Pressure Regulator gave an audible complaint at key-on. Larger injectors are called for, but I need to modify the intake configuration to make them work. Anyway, my other sets of injectors and specialty tools are not available to me here, so I am limited with making this present hardware work. Sheesh, 1/4 mile in a straight line, but there's 60,000 variables. Ya gotta love it. |
indeed.
One of the funniest things I ever heard was....."It's drag racing, how complicated can it be?" |
11 / 20 / 2010
Final runs of the season at Beech Bend. Pretty much a replay of the results two weeks ago, except getting closer to solving the traction problems:
11 / 20 / 2010, 60-70 degrees F. Most of the PCM torque management was removed or scaled back for this session. 2:01 PM Car#-----B888 R/T------.226 60'-----1.874 330-----5.402 1/8-----8.353 MPH-----84.62 1000----10.956 1/4-----13.173 MPH-----101.07 Notes: Not too bad a run; best 60 ft. time; ECT: 199-205, IAT at intake manifold: 77-86 4:07 PM Car#-----B888 R/T------.129 60'-----1.964 330-----5.515 1/8-----8.450 MPH-----85.23 1000----11.035 1/4-----13.234 MPH-----102.26 Notes: Forgot "trac off" switch again... what can I say, I'm gettin old 4:47 PM Car#-----B888 R/T------.443 60'-----1.891 330-----5.410 1/8-----8.339 MPH-----85.41 1000----10.914 1/4-----13.107 MPH-----102.42 Notes: Raised WOT timing by 2 degrees...the PCM pulled most of it back via Knock Retard (KR); running progressively leaner near the end of track; ECT: 194-201, IAT at intake manifold: 70-79. Best E.T of year. 5:17 PM Car#-----B888 R/T------.277 60'-----1.900 330-----5.414 1/8-----8.341 MPH-----85.45 1000----10.924 1/4-----13.216 MPH-----92.40 Notes: ECT: 199-205; IAT at intake manifold: 70-79 (then all hell broke loose, and it shot up to 105); Appears to be running out of gas near end of track; made rookie mistake by keeping foot in it after engine started complaining; lucky to have it get me back home. 301 Quarter-mile runs.... |
all that work and your still in the 13's I would expect less then that... why so high? can we not make our engine's any faster?
|
^^wow..

Good find, that one was on October 31, 2010, E.T. -- 13.662, 2.230 60 ft. Had the MT drag radials, very little traction. I think you could even tell where it spun in that vid..... Lightning ran 12.966 @ 105.66 with a 1.921 60 ft. |

I think there will be more to come, hope he got one of my "good" burnouts in one of them, hard to see that from in the car....:p |
come on dude. mid 12s, do work.

New vids
Here's a pretty good one.... looks like the Camaro had a problem at the end of track :
http://www.youtube.com/user/thecarsh.../8/hpVYZPbpPzk Thanks to "thecarshowguy" for taking the vids. Trac switch in wrong mode : http://www.youtube.com/user/thecarsh...27/4s5rqNv9c-w |

Can a dyno tune the top end above 90 mph when it would hit the end of a 1/4 mile? Hard to find a safe place to test that on the road....:( |
I think you got the answer lol...obviously yes.
Btw nice videos(runs), got to love slicks. If you still having some knock retard on the run, drop some race gas in it for shure. |
