Rear view mirror rattling
So when my subs hit, my mirror vibrates as would any other mirror, but also makes an annoying vibration sound. When I grab the mirror, it stops of course.
In Ontario, you must have a rearview. So removing it is out of the question. What have some of you guys done? |
I had the same issue when i first got my system..
Take an allen wrench** ( cant remember size) and just tighten the mirror down, thats what i did and it solved the issue |
It's a torx (star) screw, not allen.

Just tried the 7/64, worked. I know if you turn too hard with an Allen wrench and strip the screw, your effed. |
I had the exact same problem. What I did was, I went out out Wal-mart and got some 3M mounting tape. (It's got a 5lb. hold weight and it is a bit spongy and stretchy.) Then I took the mirror off and put the tape all around the black metal housing that touches the windshield when the mirror is secured onto the windshield. It helped a little bit. I also took apart the reading lamp housing and put some in there to secure the copper holds for the bulbs which also were rattling. This also helped. Good luck!

Use the search. Its a good thing to know that most plastics start to fail at 160 F to 200 F, and if its cold its likely to crack, but room temp should work fine. Try getting VHB tape if you can, it has a stronger hold and a way longer life. Seeing how I fixed the rattle on the out side of the trunk 6 years ago and its shows no sign of wear.
