2.2 vs grand prix 3.8

my 03 2.2 with a cold air intake beat my freinds 98 grand prix (stock but everything under the hood was only a year old) in the quarter mile by about 10 car lengths. I was amazed with how she did.

sleepyalero 05-11-2011 02:58 AM

shouldnt have beat it that bad... must have had a bad run or something. lol

Cliff8928 05-11-2011 03:02 AM

Well... a Grand Prix could never be had with a 3.6, so was it a 3.1 or 3.8?

sleepyalero 05-11-2011 03:02 AM

he probably ment 3.8

Jroc26 05-11-2011 03:08 AM

Based on the year I'm thinking 3.8 and I'm also thinking an ecotec taking out a 3800 isn't happening.

Edit: Upon further investigation the 3.1 was also available in this model year Grand prix as well, for some reason I thought it was just the 3800 and the 3800 sc.

AZFire316 05-11-2011 03:21 AM

the Grand Prix is a heavy pig of a car. The 3800 S/C stock runs low 15s with 240hp, and 280tq the 3800 N/A is 200hp and 225tq, an ecotec well driven would be a good run, 3100 would get stomped.

Papa Rad17 05-11-2011 03:34 AM

Ya he is running the 3.8. Like someone said up there. It's a lot bigger and heavier car then mine. We both spun out rather bad and I was holding the gears a little long but Im proud of that car. Much longer and he would of had me, the little engin just doesn't have to much more. Hopefully let you know exsact times soon.

*at the track*

Jroc26 05-11-2011 04:16 AM

I agree that a 3100 grand prix would get walked, I guess the n/a 3800 would be a good race, anyone know what those GPs weigh?

Papa Rad17 05-11-2011 04:22 AM

3,466lbs. Although his was dirty enough it probably had a few extra lol.

AZFire316 05-11-2011 04:32 AM

3500ish range, pretty boatish.

Redog 05-11-2011 04:49 AM

Aleros weigh 3340 with a 235 lb driver and 1/4 tank of gas without the spare and jack.

IDK if I believe this

kwhauck 05-11-2011 08:44 AM

If it was at the track you should have an exact time on your time slip. Post it, or this gets deleted. We absolutely do not promote any type of street racing.....

Papa Rad17 05-11-2011 05:10 PM

it wasn't an illegal race.

keytonic 05-11-2011 05:51 PM

Now I have to run my GP vs Alero I don't believe I know my 3.8 has more than my Alero did

Redog 05-11-2011 06:19 PM

LEts see the slip. 16.51 is about right for the 2.2 Ecotec, but unless the GP had about 150 lbs in the trunk, I doubt it was slower

Papa Rad17 05-11-2011 06:24 PM

idk dude. he certainly doesnt have it kept up the best so that probly played into it.

keytonic 05-11-2011 08:00 PM

Im not questioning you beating him but I have got to run my GP at the track against an Alro now:)
