99 3.4 5sp questions

Hey I’m new to Alero mods but I was wonder if anyone could tell me what tranys will bolt up and fit in the 99 3.4 GL. I was thinking of takeing one out of a another GM car or truck with 3.4 and trying it but I don’t have the extra money to get it and not have it work lol. I do know by shearching the threads here that an F40 out of a G6 will work but I’m not a big fan of the 6speds. If at all possible I would like to have a 5 or even a 4 speed. Any help or input is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance - Cody

The Grand Am ran down the same line and for a little while the malibu classic. They all used 4 speed autos. The V6 got 4t45-e

You need the f23 trans from one of the j body cars from 00-02 that has the 2200 sfi motor, not the ecotec or 2.4 ld9... That's the bell housing that matches the 3400. After that you need a 5 speed alero or grand am to use as a donor car for the clutch pedal, master cylinder, cables, subframe, axles, shifter assembly and console...

If you do a search for the member HEC he did an amazing write up, unfortunately the pictures no longer work...

Thanks and i also heard from another form that a 4 cylinder trans wont handle the power of a v6 engine and that i might have to upgrade the gears of the transmission to make it work just wondering if that's true for all swaps or just some.

My F23 is doing just fine. They're also used in much higher HP applications on j-bodies.
