rear speaker box idea

im imagining a box that would extend the center console to the rear seat

THis box would replace those sucky rear cup holders with a set of ones available at a marine supplier, they're for boats and would be much more effective.

if order to give the box more purpose, i was imagining it what a 6x9 on each side.

the issue in my mind is this: how wide would the box have to be so that the magnets of the 6x9s are a healthy disance apart

the entended console with cupholders may not be too bad, but would you even hook the 2 extra speakers in unless you have a stero with 6 channel capability?

if im picturing correct in my head couldnt you just put in a dividing wall on the inside of the console?

AleroDrime 04-15-2009 11:57 PM

ruff draft

worknprog.99 04-15-2009 11:59 PM

now these designs would go behind the front seats? as an extension from the stock one?

jayson_waltz 04-16-2009 12:00 AM

the side option i'd think they would have to be offset to get enought room, unless you can find really shallow mount speakers and a thin divider, maybe masonite wud work good for a divider. top option, i'd be worried about stuff getting into the speaker.

AleroDrime 04-16-2009 12:02 AM

yes it would meet up to where the cup holders on the back of the center console are now, this thought was origanlly for somthing to go between bucket seats in an el camino i was looking at that had a messed up bench seat

Gr1m 04-16-2009 12:02 AM

this idea sounds effing retarded, just upgrade your speaker components.

AleroDrime 04-16-2009 12:04 AM

figured the grills would be enough protection from dust and what not

AleroDrime 04-16-2009 12:05 AM

it was an idea to upgrade rear cupholders cause they suck, and i decided a speaker box would be an origanal addition to do it with

itsbmw 04-16-2009 12:07 AM

Just leave it alone, upgrade your speakers and substage before pulling stuff like that. It'd look out of place IMO..

AleroDrime 04-16-2009 12:11 AM

shez 04-16-2009 12:15 AM

yeah seriously... worst idea ever.

AleroDrime 04-16-2009 12:18 AM

then any ideas what to do about the cupholders

worknprog.99 04-16-2009 12:22 AM

maybe go to walmart and see if you can find some rubber cup holder liners to help grip more?

AleroDrime 04-16-2009 12:31 AM

its not the bottom grip, theres no side grip, picture a U adn thats what the look like, horrible cheap lazy GM last minute design

worknprog.99 04-16-2009 12:36 AM

usually the cup holder inserts are round and are kind of tight like a can holder. they have different sizes....

how often are the back cup holders even used?
