Part II: tank drain re: very perplexed on this one
 

OK, I'm ready to replace the fuel pump motor.

Been trying to come up with a method to drain the 7/8th full tank.

I thought I had a solution twice, but further thinking, they were not feasible.

My latest is since I can get the pump running: (although it has started the past three days) to disconnect the outgoing / feed line and pipe to my collection container.

My question is, since the pre-pressure with the key in the 'on' position will never reach it's designed pressure, will the pump continue pumping or is there a 'timeout' of some sort ?

Any additional ideas on draining tank much appreciated.

Your best bet is to drop the tank, then just pour the gas into gas cans once you slide it out from under the car.

I have drained the tank on my '99 using an Autozone off-the-shelf electric pump and plastic tubing. It's a little costly, and a hassle to get the tubing in and back out again, but I've done it.

First: yes the pump will shot off after a few seconds.
Second: u could just short the relay for the fuel pump and let it pump it out
Third: just unplugging the lines and let it drain will MAYBE be enough
Fourth: if u have a second pair of hands, drop the tank with the fuel in it - but be prepared that this MAY be a mess.

I'm going to start with the relay jumper and if that is too slow,
will pump from disconnected fill-pipe as well.

make sure to unplug the filter before u do, and let it drain from before the filter. This way u dont have to pump all the way, and against the restrictions of the filter

The filter u later on change anyhow ;)

Why cant you just siphon it out?

I used a bulb siphon to start my flow, then remove the bulb once its going. Took 20 minutes to empty my tank.
