Hardwood flooring in your car

Has anybody here ever thought about replacing the carpet in your car with hardwood flooring?

worknprog.99 09-16-2009 12:41 PM

why...

rida125 09-16-2009 12:45 PM

Because I think it would look really cool and custom

well number one... don't use real hardwood floor... to much exposure to water/abrasives. and real hardwood is like 3/4 of an inch thick. if anyhting, use laminate, but then again, you'd have to epoxy it all and seal it to eliminate the water issue.

hardwood floor even where it is supposed to be is very labor intensive to keep looking good, you have to seal it and refinish it on a fairly regular basis. and that's with normal wear and tear.

Yeah sorry about the bad title. That is what I would use because I have a ton at my house. Do you think that would look good or not so much?

i think with all the bends and odd angles in the car it wil be very hard to get looking like it should be there.. the trunk tho would work and probably look decent imo

Yeah, the shape of the floor is what's going to kill ya on that one. It was hard enough when my dad did a herringbone pattern oak floor in the bed of a El Camino SS.

I think the best look you can get would be by fiberglassing the floor and then painting it some cool color/patterns/designs and putting mats on top.

What about making the little squares in the back seats on the floor laminate? That would look ok wouldn't it. So if I did my trunkshould I do the whole thing including the spare tire cover, or just leave the spare tire cover alone?

maky yourself a pattern out of cardboard that lays on the flat part of your floors... transfer it onto some wood that's already snapped together, cut it out, trim it with something or finish the edges, and lay the pieces in like floor mats.

Would look better if you do the whole trunk, just cut the floor around the spare tire cover, so you can still get to it.

rida125 09-16-2009 01:04 PM

Ok and should I cut that part of the carpet out or just leave it in and put the laminate in right over the top of it?

FrankTheTank 09-16-2009 01:06 PM

this is not going to turn out good...

rida125 09-16-2009 01:08 PM

Why would it not turn out good?

I have to agree with the above statement. On a scale of 1 to 10 Billies, this gets a 7. In the right car this would probably be ok though.
