Serious Problem

Ok I installed my MSD 8224s today and the car cranked perfectly on the first go but now its not cranking at all and i dont know whats wrong. It isnt throwing a code or anything it just wont turn over.

cavaliers60 06-27-2012 09:18 PM

What is a MSD 8224s?

jmray91 06-27-2012 09:21 PM

http://www.msdignition.com/Products/...wer_Style.aspx

i did everything that it said to in ions write up on how to install them i even installed them with the 8224 MSD Coil Interfaces

If the starter doesn't work, maybe your battery is dead. Nothing you wire up in the ignition will prevent the starter from working. Considering you can completely disconnect the ICM and coils and still crank the engine over..

all the power still comes into the car the fuel pump works and everything comes on the engine just wont turn over it makes the starting noise and thats it and i just tried uplugging the icm and coils and it still wont turn over

[ion] C2 06-27-2012 09:43 PM

what exactly would you define as a "starting noise?"

seriously, people trying to describe a "car won't start" problem really suck at details.

when you say the engine "won't turn over," you mean it physically will not rotate the crankshaft? the starter is not turning, essentially? what the hell is a "starting noise" if the engine doesn't turn over?

don't know man, check your battery cable tightness on the battery. it's nothing to do with what is described in the how-to. guaranteed. something else coincidentally occured.

jmray91 06-27-2012 09:47 PM

ok the crank turns and you hear the start trying to crank the car but thats it and battery cable is tight

jmray91 06-27-2012 09:51 PM

and that is why i wanted to ask you ion cause you did the write up for it so you mightve had an idea on what is going on and just checked the battery it tested good at 500volts if you could hear the car you could probably tell me what wrong

tw0123 06-27-2012 10:07 PM

take a quick video and post it! best way for him to hear it without actually being there ;)

Redog 06-27-2012 10:17 PM

Is everything plugged back in? Everything tight?

Sounds like you're not getting spark

xXManwhoreXx 06-27-2012 10:18 PM

Is the starter making a crank noise and the motor chugging, or just a wine?

Redog 06-27-2012 10:21 PM

If the motor cranks, the starter is working.

Only things left is battery is close to dead, no fuel, no spark.

Had you tried pumping the gas when you try to start it? Do you smell gas when you do that?

[ion] C2 06-27-2012 10:43 PM

you wired up something wrong then if it's not starting

jmray91 06-27-2012 10:50 PM

ya i smell gas but could bosch irdium/platinum plugs be the problem? and yes the starter is making a crank noise and the motor is chugging. its definitely not whining

[ion] C2 06-27-2012 10:57 PM

bosch plugs are terrible, but if it ran the first time it should still run with it wired like this
sure the wires aren't mismatched at all

jmray91 06-27-2012 11:38 PM

positve i even matched up up exactly to your chart and checked my work twice like i said the card started with the new coils then i went to drive it again and that when it started its crap

guiguilandry 06-28-2012 06:40 AM

security light on ??

jhubbz 06-28-2012 11:19 AM

Did you stuff the plug wires with dielectric grease? Also, make sure you have a secure ground connection. I did the msd mod without fail. Although I do not have the bases.

jmray91 06-29-2012 07:02 AM

Im gonna try rewiring it tomorrow and ill check my plugs got some new ones coming in and hopefully it fixes it

jmray91 06-30-2012 03:37 AM

Checked the wiring earlier and i got a new pigtail for the icm and i fixed the problem right there. Dont know what caused it but it fixed the problem
