Time to pull out the engine

well, 38k miles into my transmission swap, i finally blew something out on it.

Second gear will not stay engaged unless i hold the shifter in place. So im guessing either a broken shifter fork or a snychro. So now i have to pull the morot/trans and send the trans in to be fixed. Who knows i may just get it built to hold more power since its down. One step closer to be prepared for the turbo build. ;)

For fun, ill take pictures of my progress. But the car will be down for awhile. But im not complaining i guess... Winter is right here..

tw0123 11-03-2014 07:50 PM

Damn that sucks nate! Hopefully it doesn't kill the budget on the motor build...

Is there any warranty from either gm or Milzy on the transmission? I know it's a custom build but just wondered if there's any warranty...

sleepyalero 11-03-2014 07:58 PM

Nope, warranty is past due now to the year/mileage basically. But thats okay.

And either way, i was going to build up the f40 trans for the motor build. But depended if it would hold the power or not, we will see what happens.

sleepyalero 11-05-2014 01:42 PM

It has begun.

tw0123 11-05-2014 02:46 PM

You should take the front bumper and lights out... gives you a couple extra inches and eliminates the possibility of scratching them ;)

S8track16 11-05-2014 03:22 PM

and while you're at it, take those headlight covers off and sell them to me lol

sleepyalero 11-05-2014 03:44 PM

Im not to worried about scratching things. :)

And no way! Mine!

sleepyalero 11-05-2014 04:53 PM

Well making some progress. Coil pack is removed along with spark plugs, clutch line removed from trans, some coolant lines removed. Plugs removed. Some electrical shit undone. Battery out.

Still gotta drain fluids etc. alot still has to be done. I also need to call milzy about some things on how to remove and go about certain things. But im not in a huge rush either or id have alot more done.

are you going to swap in a 3500?

sleepyalero 11-06-2014 10:34 AM

No way.

Nas Escobar 11-07-2014 01:33 AM

Why no to the 3500? I thought those were a better platform to turbocharge than the 3400.

sleepyalero 11-07-2014 10:16 AM

I just dont care for it, if anything id do a 3500 top swap. But not the whole motor.

01OhioAlero 11-07-2014 11:42 AM

From what I have seen HOYS has the most powerful boosted 3400/3500 and its a 3400 engine with stage 2 milzy kit and forged internals.

mfuller 11-07-2014 11:58 AM

The problem with a 3500 bottom end is that if you want stronger rods and/or pistons for a highly-stressed build, there is nothing readily available - you'll have do do custom parts, which gets expensive in a big hurry.
A built 3400 short block is easier to source parts for and ultimately easier to live with.

I'm still a bit taken aback with the amount of miles you've put on that transmission in a relatively short amount of time.
I've got less than 14,000 miles on mine.

sleepyalero 11-07-2014 12:34 PM

You also have a daily driver matt as i do not :(

But on a nice day, i love to just drive the car around out of fun, with no place to go i just cruise around for awhile. I love driving my car haha, but when crappy weather it sits.

And i just talked to mike and recieved some "GREAT" news...... I have to pull the motor and tranny out the bottom... It cant come out the top... I have my work cut out for me...

I was hoping to just yank it all up the top, but looks like it just became a more difficult task.

Garfield 11-07-2014 01:21 PM

Guess it is time to get a lift installed in your garage!

sleepyalero 11-07-2014 01:28 PM

Wouldnt that be nice, but i can make it work, it just wont be fun.

fisdad 11-07-2014 06:13 PM

Just pull until it comes out the top. Add lube and tug with the Cummins.

sleepyalero 11-07-2014 08:46 PM

Hahahahahaha if only she was that easy! ;)

AleroB888 11-08-2014 12:25 AM
