2002 with blown head gasket

I'm new to this site so if this has been posted before please forgive.
My v6 3.4L blew the gasket and I'm stubbern so I'm going to try a rebuild has anyone done this and got it working?? Any advise to make the job easier and should I mod while rebuilding??

I've rebuilt a couple 3400's and i have to say it's completely effortless, what makes you say the heads are blown? Do you have milky coolant?

Yes no doubt milky oil was going through a gallon of antifreeze a day. I have watched videos of the 3400 sfi rebuilds and they look easy but friends and fam tell me that it won't run right after rebuild

Mine ran perfectly fine for another 75ish~K Miles. The engine was still running strong when it went off to the yards.

Mine is 150k right now I don't know how long it will take me to rebuild I get discount parts where I work and can get the parts for cheap

Go for it dude, mine had 180k when i redid mine and it had like 275k when the rust finally got too bad to keep the car. My heads never went again and the car kept making good power.

Yeah shouldn't be too bad. I never did any work on my car about 10 years ago, but that all changed when I realized who simple this motor really is ;)

Thanks that gives me a boost of confidence that I can get it done I can get the whole gasket set for $90 from my work so I think I can get a rebuild for less than a grand (mostly beer cost)

The engine is basically a mini 350. It's a simple pushrod V6, you should be fine with a Haynes Manual and patience.

Just replaced my heads and gaskets not bad at all. Just make sure you get the heads checked. Both of mine were cracked.

Will do I feel like if I rebuild I should mod rather than stock
My friend has a v8 mustang I beat him off the line in the rain and feel like the 3400 is a great motor

Redog 05-16-2014 04:58 PM

Yeah you could mod it up, but even with an entire top end rebuild, you are still going to need a tune.

Just don't reuse head bolts :coolio:
