i've also though about purchasing one... all i know is that they show mpg and can clear engine codes and such
has anyone tried one? i've though about wiring it up into the overhead console in my car (taking out the overhead console and replacing it with a different one) i mostly want the mpg |
theres a link somewhere on here... mpguino.
you can make your own. |
There are quite a few people who have them in MINIs and really like them. You can see afr and all kinds of neat stuff there. What GM made available on the CAN is your limit on an Alero.

Dude, dont spend $170 on it just for MPG. if you want the most accurate reading of MPG this is what you do.... after you fill up, reset your trip meter. next time you fill up take the miles and divide them by how many gallons you put in. so say you had 240 miles and it took 11.2 gallons to fill.....divide them and you have your MPG. |
billy... we've been over this. that'll give you your mpg AFTER the fact. what if he wants DURING the drive?? then what? whats your miracle "your a dumbass" cure for that!?

did i ever call him a dumb ass? no.....so dont put words in my mouth. if you want it while your driving go spend $170 on it....even though those things arent 100% accurate. whats the difference if you wait a few days to fill up and find out the MPG compared to while your driving? use that $170 and get a custom exhaust made at a shop.... is it that big of a deal to wait till you fill up? |
i drive my car hard some days, and easier other days, which doesn't give me that accurate... i like reading my current. and sometimes i don't have the money for a full tank of gas.
i know these things aren't perfect... but i bet they're pretty close. But i appreciate the idea billy. thats what i do now... last tank was 38mpg or 7.3l/100km (well i guess to you guys 31mpg) |
thanks for everyones input. i have seen this on amazon for about $153.

I have one in my mazda. got it off amazon for $100 on the goldbox deal. Its fun but its just a novelty after about a month. I bought it primarily for the code reader with all the other stuff as extra.
