How to Identify if Alero is GLS,GX etc?

Ey I was wondering if anyone knew how to tell if my Alero is a GLS, GX, or etc, I know none of these cars came tagged, and for the life of me i can not find out what model it is? any insights?

Well you could do a vin check or there is some other hints. I'm guessing you have a 3.4 so you at least have a gl and if you have leather, and 16in chrome wheels then more than likely you have a gls.

Stickybuddz420 06-26-2010 08:45 PM

Well its a 04' 3.4, no leather, or chrome rims, but it does have alum 17"s and all power controls including abs and trac, so, if the GLS is leather and chrome, then cant be, so I'm guessing its a GL, I ran a VIN check but to no avail. on the specific model.

Most likely it's a GL

17's??

GX: usually 4 cyl, hubcaps. GL1: 4 or 6 cyl, 15 or 16 in alloy rims, maybe a CD player.. GL2: 4 or 6 cyl, 16 in alloy rims, ETS, 4-wheel disc brakes, CD player. GLS: usually 6 cyl, All of GL2, as well as leather, and 16 in chrome rims.

I'm not completely certain on these options, but i think it's right. Things such as the spoiler and the moon roof i've seen on all levels so i don't think they make a difference

polished aluminum, not chrome....

AlbinoMonkeyRat 06-26-2010 09:32 PM

it really is more specific than this, but this is an overly simplified guide:

GLS = Sunroof, Leather, Spoiler, V6, OEM stereo Amp (Monsoon), 16 Alum Rims
GL = any (but not all) of the above options
GX = none of the above except on special orders

kwhauck 06-26-2010 09:49 PM

Correct, special orders can change things. I had a GL1 but it had all the options of a GLS.

Stickybuddz420 06-26-2010 10:33 PM

Yeah see if the car is a special order then a specific tag would not be appropriate IMO, but yeah its 16 alum rims, spoiler, premium sound ( upgraded recently with HU, amp and subs) Power etc, no sun roof unfortunately, came with no holes in front bumper for plate which I love, no Old's tag in front which makes it a little cleaner. I had to go with 4 door because of my son, Which I don't mind having the extra room for my job, But yeah that's her head-to-toe rundown, Deciding to list upgrades when I'm done, there are quite a few installed and many to come, naturally all IMO so enjoy or not she's still and Alero.

Fuzzyspudkiss 06-27-2010 12:38 AM

I have a GLS with everything but a sunroof or spoiler...

TheThickster 06-27-2010 01:02 AM

So what do i have?
'99 Alero, 4 door, 15 inch aluminum wheels (non-polished), V6, auto trans, Traction control, ABS, 4 wheel disc, power door locks/windows, no spoiler,no moon roof, cloth interior, silver emblems front and back.

Lucalare 06-27-2010 01:48 AM

i would say GL1, because of the wheels if nothing else

Mori01 06-27-2010 02:10 AM

There used to be a post here long ago when I first joined that told you what type of Alero it was by using the last 4 digits of the VIN. I've only found it once, and that was the last time I ever found it.

Stickybuddz420 06-27-2010 04:31 AM

Well so far I am gathering that All Alero's came a certain style, but apparently a solid percentage were either special order, or the orig/2nd-3rd owners wanted their cars to resemble more attractive/powerful versions of the vehicle, well if anyone has a sure fire way to find out if this is the case, or wtf the case is, insight would be helpful considering all the different opinions of our members.

As well I shall post pics pre-mod (unfortunately) to try and resolve this issue along with spec's that could possibly be helpful.

i have a gl2, and it came with 15" wheels. also came with all other options except for sunroof, leather, and the v6.

Alerojester 06-27-2010 10:46 PM

im guessing i have a gl1 i have 4 cylinder, 15 in. alloys, cd player, but i also have discs all the way around??? so could it be gl2????

Cliff8928 06-28-2010 12:20 AM

Ok, the sure fire method of telling the trim level of your Alero.

If the 5th digit of the VIN is....

K = GX

L = GL

F = GLS

JLw7123 06-28-2010 09:04 AM

i have a GLS
