cowl hood question

I'm posting this to ask but i know only 4 others will possibly be able to answer....

Is there any way to attach a set of redlinetuning gas struts to these hoods to get away from the prop rod? I've been wondering since i got the hood but do not want to waste $100+ if it won't work... I've heard it won't but no reasoning as to why...

Thanks to those who know!

Question is, will the hood take a decent pressure applied to it to close with the struts without putting a crack in the hood, i know the bubble hood wont.

Not sure... I've seen the cf hoods on the grand ams with the gas hood struts which is why it peaked my interest and curiosity about it again...

The hood itself is not strong enough to support the rod

How so Ken? I'm not really sure what you mean by that... or is the area that would get the mounting hardware of the kit not strong enough causing the material to crumble or rip right through?

nosweat put the struts on his hood. had to have the shop drill off the brackets off the stock hood and then the pop rivet them onto his. Now it is cracking by these brackets

the hood was not designed to use the struts. there for no reinforcement in these areas. I would not recommend it.

Does the prop rod suck, yea......but cowl hood or struts..............................I'll take cowl hood anyday. Also gave me another piece to chrome

tw0123 12-15-2014 04:43 PM

Hahaha nice Scot! I'll never give up the cowl hood but after seeing a grand am with the cf hood it got me wondering if these could support it...

Thank you all for clarifying for me to put my mind to rest on this!

Wrap the whole car in chrome vinyl while you are at it scot!

Crazytaxi37 08-15-2015 11:47 PM

Don't do it.

Pulled my prop rod from a 99 Malibu at the JY, for a whole $2.

Had to be cleaned before going on my car too.

tw0123 08-18-2015 07:31 PM

My car already has the prop rod.... only reason I'd asked was cuz a buddy had a cf sc/t hood on his grand am with the struts and I've never seen one on the alero...

I appreciate the help on it, as Scot said, prop rod or cf hood.... hood wins hands down!
