I am planning on getting a Cali edition hood, and on the web site it says that I have to conver my mounting to a hood prop type. I did like a million searches on this and found nothing, as far as I know, I should just be able to find an Alero at a junkyard and switch it out with what I have??? How easy will this be, and will it cost me a lot? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

all u would need is to remove the hood struts and buy the prop rod stick. I Can't seeing the prop rod stick being expensive at the dealer.

I wish I could get the CF hood and keep the struts I have, hmmm. So should I just get the prop rod at a dealership, or junkyard and then put it in when i put the hood in?

You can probably keep the strut settup, but you would have to get some that offered quite a bit less resistance. Also, this would probably involve drilling holes in the hood to mount the struts. I would think it would be easier to just get the prop rod and work with that.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

I wanted to do the opposite. I wanted to take out the hood prop and put in the struts. I think its a nicer look.

most people want that, and rev is only going back to prob because of the CF hood.

maybe you guys can do an even swap for hardware.

lol, I'll sell him my struts, but I don't need to pay for his to be shipped here, I'm just gonna go look at junkyards tomorrow.

I'll buy them, but not right now maybe in another week or so. I'm buying a truck tomorrow and insurance is due. I'll let you know.

ok guys..............

hood prop and retainer clip cost me $24 thru GM

far as doing the hood stuts on the cali hood well here is the issue.......

the bracket that is spot welded on the factory hood has 4 spot welds in it. 2 on the bottom and 2 on the side. the 2 on the bottom wouldn't be a problem but you would need to use screw and nut so you would have to cut a hole on the side of the ridge to acess where the nut would go.

the problem is on the side (main reason why cali hood is for prop) where the spot welds are in not in the center but a little below that. the spot weld isa 1/4" weld so you would need to use 3/8 to 7/16 drill to drill it out. now the position of where the hole is and you look at the ridge on the cali hood there is not enough room for a threaded insert due to thickness of the ridge, the position of the hole and the size of the threaded nut.

now i am sure you could come up with some jerry rigged way of doing it but will not be very secure and would not last very long. (another reason why cali hood is prop......safety)
