I know that you can find a stock electric fuel pump for around $300 or so, but it is inside of the fuel tank (not really a bolt-on job). I'm not sure if leaving a dead fuel pump in the tank and installing an external one would work, but it sounds like a good plan. I know once a stock fuel pump is dead, no fuel will leave the tank. I think it gets trapped in there so even if you applied another suction after the dead pump, it would be creating a vacuum or something in the line between the external pump and the dead pump.

.. just my theory..

so yo ucant replace the stock fuel pump at all?

bigd6983 12-02-2004 11:34 PM

lol no you can, i was just asking if you could add an external one and just leave the dead one in the tank.........because to change the stock one you have to drain the gas and drop the gas tank down......

oic.......well my question still hasnt been answered lol

its expensive as heck to replace the fuel pump, part wise its expensive and labor wise its expensive...........do u wanna do it yourself?

more like $200 off the shelf

i don't play with gas though

well i mtalkign about if the stock pump goes out and you think about replacing it with aftermarket one. thats what im talkign about instead of putting a stock one back in

I have my doubts because I think the stock fuel pump closes off the tank once the car is off (if it wouldn't, then changing a fuel filter would be a HUGE mess, but only about half a cup of gasoline leaks out). Now a dead fuel pump.. that may have the fuel tank shut off completely and since it is dead, no fuel will leave the tank.

Now if my theory is proven false, I think it would work. Just be sure to have it installed after the fuel filter to keep the pump clean. Then you need to locate the wiring.. heheh. Something needs to tell the external pump to turn on.
