guage cluster mileage

Um holy crap what do I do my car doesn't have a 140000 miles, not even half that is there a way to fix this, I put in the cluster from yaleroynot

Caboose73 06-30-2009 10:32 PM

ya put back in your old cluster

AleroDrime 06-30-2009 10:50 PM

But I like the leds and red glowing guages is there a way to swap the mileage mechanism

I really thought mileage would be kept and read in the computer and not the cluster

heineck 06-30-2009 11:18 PM

Swap the LEDs

PappaSmurf 06-30-2009 11:30 PM

The mileage is kept in the cars computer (the brain) not an electrical device.

Smurf that's what I thought but the new cluster is reading a 138*** miles, it could be I could hold the reset there or unplug the battery awhile

PappaSmurf 07-01-2009 01:32 AM

There is NOTHING you can do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Either keep the original gauge in the car OR have the pretty one with high mileage. Your choice.

I don't know exactly where the mileage information is stored in the cluster, but you should be able to swap the electronics over. Sometimes it is on a removable chip, but I haven't seen that on any newer cars.

jayson_waltz 07-01-2009 01:46 AM

its stored in both places. the dealership would be able to plug in and see your actual mileage, but the cluster will still show wrong. for money (of course), you can get a dealership to pregram the cluster to say the same as actual.

i know this b\c at work we got in an alero from canada (kph) and swapped in a us (mph) and they programmed it to read right.

AleroDrime 07-01-2009 02:37 AM

I guess Ill try to swap the leds and wiring

Nate's Alero 07-01-2009 04:43 AM

just bring it into the dealer and see if they can program the cluster

AleroDrime 07-01-2009 08:51 AM

They can do it for 83 dollars, that's ignorant, Cliff can you find out more about our aleros?

The word "ignorant" is an adjective describing a person in the state of being unaware.
What is the dealer unaware of?

AleroChick785 07-01-2009 10:10 AM

Run the car in reverse till it reads the same as your old odometer.

Just keep your old, original cluster, and swap it back in before you sell it.

I have never seen an option in the Tech 2 for reading the mileage on the car. There is however the US/Metric options.

They're probably sending it to a speedometer repair place that has the appropriate tools to reset the mileage. Quite honestly that's the best way to do it. I can't really know more about it because of that cluster is modified.

Th0r 07-01-2009 01:35 PM

It has to be sent to SPECMO. GM dealerships don't have the programing, tools, or authorization to work on the units.

Even if you did send it in, once SPECMO realizes the unit has been tampered with they won't touch it.
