I knew i was forgetting something..My bad....running between here and plasti-dipping my side mirrors...I was thinking of going with 17s

S8track16 03-12-2014 06:14 PM

What you're asking is very dependent on every other variable.

Offset, wheel width. You don't generally want to increase your overall diameter. Or reduce it too much. Make your tires wide as you need them to be and you shouldn't run into much problem at factory overall diameter. This utility is very useful when it comes to choosing tires: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

I run 225/50R17 on a 7.5" with +40 offset and it's the tallest I'd run reasonably.

225? not much bigger then stock...i was thinking on somthing like 235..and the link doesnt work

[ion] C2 03-12-2014 06:42 PM

Who knows, I ran BFGoodrich KDW2 tires at 225/45R17 and they held traction good enough for me. I have slicks for the track.
I should've gone with a wider tire I suppose, wider is better, but the car handles well for now. Maybe I'll sell these brand new tires and go get wider ones when it warms up.

The link above works now; Aleromod screwed up the formatting.

235/45 or 235/40 would work for you.

Thank you for the help.. Next challenge choosing a brand and new rims hahaha

[ion] C2 03-12-2014 07:51 PM

good stuff

Garnetdawn 03-12-2014 09:44 PM

another question the 235 are 9.25 inches in width The rims are 17x8...will the tires even fit on the rim?

xXManwhoreXx 03-12-2014 11:49 PM

Yeah but they will look like shit... sidewalls will be flared inwards. Probably have a blow out around a corner... I wouldnt do it.

Garnetdawn 03-12-2014 11:58 PM

Why does shit have to be so complicated

No they won't lol wtf. You realize your typical 225 tire is roughly 8.9" wide right? That works and looks just fine on a 7" wide wheel. So a tire that's 10mm wider on a 25.4mm wider wheel would be fine.

205/50R17 on 7" wide wheel

225/50R17 on 7.5" wide wheel
