CAI Problems?
ok i'm new here and ill first off admit that im not the best with cars, now about a week ago i installed a 3pc cold air intake on my car that i bought offline and the installation was simple, i did it myself. the car ran fine for about 4 hours then stuff started going wrong. first the car wouldnt shift if i had my foot too far down and now the car's power seems to be cut in half. if i floored it before i put the cai in it would shift at 40 mph at almost red line, now if i floor it it will rev up to about 4 grand at 25 mph and just sit there, it will only shift if i let of the gas. can anyone give me any suggestions as to what the hell is wrong with my car. the engine is the 3400 thats why i posted in here. any advice would be most appreciated.

service engine light on? could be a sensor, like your MAF
wait first off what engine do u got and then we can go from there
3400 engines have a maf and 2.4's have a map so either way ur problem would lie there.

just wanted to point that out :p |
lol my mistake, I should read what topic its in next time, but yea since its the 3400 check ur maf
hehe a new MAF is like 140$ have fun
well a connection could be messed up or something, he coulda pinched a wire when puttin that cai in, so just look around dude and if the maf is effed then yes it is a good 140 bills
all right i'll check that out and let you guys know, thanks alot.
if you haven't done it already, try this...disconnect the battery for a minute or so, then hook it back up...it'll reset the computer so it can recalibrate for the extra airflow

the problem with your car sounds like its MAF related (as others have said). check all the sensor connections and have it scanned to see if there are any trouble codes. |
alright i have my battery unpluged as we speak ill wait a little and hopefully it should be good, just incase though, does anyone know about how much it should cost to have the pcm recalibrated?
alright well the battery thing didnt work. any other ideas?
make sure the MAF is installed right. It does have a flow direction.

i was just about to post that, i know that happened to another guy on this site..... |
yeah i have the arrow in the correct direction. i dont understand why the car is acting like this.
make sure u didnt pinch any wires while u were hookin up ur cai, while i was hookin up my wai I forgot bout some wires and I had the same problem so just look around the engine bay to make sure shit is connected right
Also you probably disconnected your MAF clip when installing right>?
Check to see if the prongs are bent on the MAF itself. I did bend one of mie when I installed my CAI and it made my car act crazy |
nothing worked to fix my problem so i'm just gonna bite the bullet and take her to a mechanic in the morning, i wish i knew more about car. thanks alot everyone for your suggestions.
hah turns out the problems my car was having wasn't from the CAI at all. my Cat. Converter was blocked up. now with that fixed my car runs better than ever.
