some input would help :D

hello there alero mod.

i have read the threads on universal turbo kits from ebay.... but i wanna know about this one
http://www.fastwayracer.com/Forced-I...duct_info.html

it seems reliable enough, gives very good details and what not, but im just kindda sketched about the price tag.

any advice helps, thank you in advance

First of all NO... Universal kits take a lot of effort to work and you're better off piecing everything together yourself... Also, I think you need to do a lot more research before even thinking about turbocharging. First of all you need turbo manifolds/headers to actually drive the turbo... Then you need a way to tune your car and figure out safe boost levels for your motor.. You didn't specify what engine your have. What experience do you have with working with and modifying engines?

PS Welcome to Aleromod!

Thank you, kinda figured it was too good. And i suppose i did forget to mention engine type. I have the 3.4 l la1 model. As for experience more than an average 17 year old. I have helped my uncle install turbos on various ricers. So any recenmondations to a good turbo to piece together for under say 1500 if at all possible? And im Not worried about manifolds. I have guys around her with metal fab skills.

sleepyalero 12-13-2012 11:31 AM

1500$ would get you a great turbo.. Nothing else.

I wouldn't want to cheap out on a turbo set up. I hope you plan to build the motor up too. You can run a certain PSI on stock internals, but IMO I don't recommend it, and would rather build it so you don't have problems.

declined_imp 12-13-2012 11:33 AM

Alright, any links to said turbos? Because i have searched for grand am turbos as well, and i got the same results as the link i posted

sleepyalero 12-13-2012 11:35 AM

You don't search for a turbo for a grand am or alero. It doesn't work like that for these cars. You find a say garret turbo, buy it, and custom fab to make it work on the car.

declined_imp 12-13-2012 11:39 AM

That explains the results haha, thank you all for the help, but one more question... i saw manifolds on mms.. they any good? Its like 600 for the mani and down pipes

sleepyalero 12-13-2012 11:43 AM

I dont know there, I would rather do headers. A lot less restriction, even though the manifolds are ported, you will have a better gain with headers.

but mike over at MMS is a good guy, does great work. He did a 6 speed swap in my 3400 for me, as you can see below in my signature.

declined_imp 12-13-2012 11:45 AM

Alright, does Wot-tech sell headers? I also saw that you have the tranny swap from mms... was it difficult?

declined_imp 12-13-2012 11:48 AM

I also saw the video you posted after the swap, very clean

sleepyalero 12-13-2012 11:52 AM

Thanks, I couldn't say. I had Mike at MMS do the swap. It was most likely fairly easy for him since he specializes in N-bodies.

Wot tech was working on making a set, but have not came out with any yet. Header options are MMS, pacesetter (cheapest) around 300$ non ceramic coated. Then there is s&s and TOG headers but those are rare nowadays since they stopped producing them, only luck is if you find them used.

declined_imp 12-13-2012 11:56 AM

Okay, i have heard good things about mms, so i will probly get theres

tw0123 12-13-2012 11:57 AM

Check out Torres grand am Turbo part out... he has dropoed his price to $2500 for everything you will need...

declined_imp 12-13-2012 11:59 AM

Oooo that sounds promising, to bad i dont have the money for that yet :(

sleepyalero 12-13-2012 12:01 PM
