New guy from Ashland, WI

Just joined and want to say "Hi" I have a 2003 Alero sedan, maybe my 15th Oldsmobile. Having fun reading on your site. I am looking into oil usage problems on a 2.2 Ecotec. Thanks Andy and Nathan for helping me get on this site!

Welcome! I'm pretty new here too but also new to Oldmobiles (it's my first).

As for ecotec oil usage issues, I know that GM decided to replace their conventional PCV valve with a fixed orifice design built into the engine (most commonly the valve cover). That's about all I know and oil burning issues are still a problem with this new design (even worse in some cases than before).

I'd search ecotec oil burning and see what the cavvy/cobalt guys have figured out. If it was me, I'd be looking into cleaning it out if possible. might help with some issues.

Welcome to the site.

I have the same oil problem and have looked into it some. If your issue is with the pcv system inside the intake manifold (like mine is) which is probably the most common cause the best fix is to order a new intake manifold. The orifice that gets clogged in the manifold and causes the problem is conveniently located so that it is almost impossible to clear the clog once it has happened. I have driven my car with the issue for this issue for 10's of thousands of miles because at the time it was a PITA to get a new manifold for it. Now she has other issues so there is no point.

Ok, I have a spare intake, I will look at it. I had thought the passage was in the cam cover. I blew that out with compressed air. I have my original engine, which locked up solid. The engine I have in it now has 230,000 miles on it, which could be part of the problem.

Thanks again Nathan for the help, I love your car!
