first performance mod.. wahoo!
My girl's getting her first official "performance" upgrade tomorrow:yahoo: ! I'm having the local exhaust shop install a cat back system with a Magnaflow muffler and a 2.5" pipe (debated for awhile on the size, read many posts, finally decided). I'm excited :). I don't expect much gain yet, but I'm getting a CAI in the next week or two, and some headers pretty soon as well, so I'm sure I'll be happy in the end :). And the whole cat back system is costing me less than 200, which is very nice. After all these things I can finally get my girl tuned.. then I will be very happy. Just thought I'd share that with you all... I'm done now...
Wait that's a lie, not done. I think the price includes them taking out the resonator.. I know little about exhausts, but I know the resonator makes it quieter. If I have the option, should I keep the resonator or just replace it with the 2.5" pipe? The guy said the Magnaflow will have a deep pitch on my 3400. I'm looking for it to sound nice when I get on it a little, so I'm not sure if I should keep the resonator or not... hmmmm.. Now I'm done. |
oh, too late now are gonna be addicted.......once the speed bug hits you there are no known cures.......
|
I have a magna flow .. put on yesterday with 2.5 pipe.. I dont have a high-flow cat, because im going to cut mine off soon. but i love how it sounds. the 3400 shouldnt be too loud without your resonator. IMO you would like it, i love mine
edit:: I have the 3400 as well. |
sweet... the guy at the shop said high flow cats are a long time myth, so he said I shouldn't worry about that. I would say he's lying to cheat me out of money, but by saying it he's actually losing money.... haha, I don't know.
do you happen to have a sound clip or video of your system? ha, i keep editing... did you notice any more pull by just getting the catback done? I'm not expecting one, but it would be nice if maybe there was a little;) |
i added you on facebook, i have 2 pics of the magna there, and ill send my video. give me a sec
. edit:: i didnt save the right one so ill have to get a in car and drive by later or tomorrow. and to be honest, i was so stoked about getting mine done that i cant answer. It seems like there might be.. it feels like it added slight torque which you will probably notice.. maybe im just r-tarded and was so amped i imagined it, but i swore there was. not alot, but something. |
haha yeah that's how I'm gonna be. "whoa dude, I totally gained like 2357 HP and 42784534 ft lbs torque."
haha no but really, that's what I like to think at first.. I gotta keep myself in check sometimes. |
Just for reference, this is a 3400 V6 with headers, 2.5" exhaust with a Magnaflow resonator and muffler.

Yeah I like it without the res on, and I'm still standing by what I feel. I do think it adds some torque.
|
resonator is useless. ditch it. lol

Scot (Oldsman) has my old cat-back, which is 2.5" pipes with a Magnaflow muffler and no resonator. I just thought it was too loud.....sounds great on his 2.4L Twin Cam though. |
+1 for no res for me!
|
....
|
no... cats are useless.. res are worse... in Indiana we dont have emissions tests therefore it is ok to cut off your cat, you just need an o2 sensor fooler thing.
|
well, I live in a Nazi state. I need the cat. lol

haha I want my cat there... I don't want it too loud. I'm just saying the guy at the shop said it's best to just leave my stock cat on unless I need a new one. Yay I can't wait to go get it done :)
|
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep your catalytic converter installed.
If it was me, I'd keep the resonator in for now. Drive around for a while and see how you like it. Anything we tell you about sound is just our opinion after all, and yours will probably differ from ours. :) If you want it louder, then take out the resonator. It's a lot easier have it removed later than to decide you need it and have it welded back in. |
