3500 Alero R.I.P. :(

Well the 3500 Alero is no longer:( back in August I wrecked my truck on a saturday moning (rear ended a car when I hit some water over the road) then the thursday after that I get a call at work from my girlfriend and she is in a panic, "some chick just ran in to me in the parking lot, and the air bags went off". I was like oh s*** and rush home to make sure that she was ok, and she was. luckly the cops showed up (same one from my accident :icon_rolleyes:) because they don't have to when it is on private property. So I called the insurance and they said that I was covered as long as the other girl said that it was her fault, and she did say it was her fault also that her brakes did not work.

A month later I get a cheque from the insurance and I kept the car so that I can pull the engine and some other parts! Now I am looking for another Alero or n-body.
After I find another car I will part out what is left of the car!

I will try to post up some pics this weekend of the damage.

weres the pics of it in the engine!!! but that does suck all that work and yet you gotta do it again

jhubbz 10-02-2010 02:40 PM

dang that sucks dude. sorry to hear about all this. I have a fear of my gf wrecking my car every time she drives it. maybe you could go for that FnF alero on ebay right now?

that was before. never did get the headers on it or the 3500 plenum with the 65mm TB

after:

it dose not look that bad but it was a good hit. broke the aluminum control arm and took a chunk out of the rim, and the air bags made it a write off.

I think there's probably a lot more damage hiding in there than it initially looks like. Very likely totaled, but bdyman can tell you more.

airbags are a grand each, parts and labor. (typical ballpark figure from the insurance standpoint). Luckily nobody was hurt severely. GLWS when you do a part out.

thanks every one!

having trouble picking up a decent 4dr v6, keep missing the good ones for a grand lol! And I don't have time to do another 2.4 to 3.4/3.5 swap right now.

I will just keep waiting it out, a good one will show up!

well, please contact me when you part out the car. My driver seat is totaled and if yours is in good condition i would love to buy it. that is, if its the tan leather version. thank you.

let me know if you are parting it out, I can use some spare parts :)

If I were you, I'd sell it as a repairable if you don't want to fix it yourself.
Alero airbags have dropped significantly in price, and the repair is easy.
This would be considered an "easy fix".
Your cost to fix it.... having someone else paint it.... doing the rest yourself... probably $1000-1500. That includes an alignment.

man that does suck im sorry to hear that, but saw you were saying something about headers.. im looking for some headers actually for my 3400. if you wanna get rid of them let me know. ;)

I thought about that, it would be less for me because I am a mechanic, but winter is comming and I do not have a garage to work on it or a place to put it. I might pick up a 2dr in the spring and build it up but for now I just picked up a 2002 Grand Am GT for $900 going to use some of the parts from the Alero on it! Once the GA is on the road (hopefully nex week) I will part out whats left of the Alero!

I have some S&S headers and I built my own for my cavalier then re-made the rear to fit the Alero. I might do some 3500 manifolds on the GA!
