what to look for

http://www.nextechclassifieds.com/listings/view/350395/

My friend who came with me to the Alero show this summer is looking at this...anything in particular to look out for...the biggest questions have to do with the motor, i know the ecotec pretty well and have gained a fair amount of knowledge on the 3400, I don't feel that I have learned much about the 2.4 though

Does it sound like it's going to blow up? If not your ok. Look for leaking head gasket/valve cover. If you have access to it do a compression test. I will never buy a motor without doing one

03glgold 10-22-2012 11:33 PM

orielly's loans compression test kits don't they

sleepyalero 10-22-2012 11:38 PM

im pretty sure they do, and aww!! you guys are gonna be matching. ;)

but nah good for him, i hope to see you both with your alero's at ASS in June.

there are others on the list to look at but this is first because it seems to be the best deal and it is closest to them...i believe all the others are 3400 or ecotec so i have a better concept of them

sleepyalero 10-22-2012 11:49 PM

i like my 3400, but everyone has there opinions. :p

xXManwhoreXx 10-23-2012 03:00 AM

Why a 4 door though

sleepyalero 10-23-2012 03:02 AM

mastershake 10-23-2012 07:52 AM

make sure he checks for rust on the underbody

03glgold 10-23-2012 01:42 PM

any other 2.4 problems to be aware of

brickkk 10-23-2012 01:45 PM

when hot or low on gas they die on you :) had 2 friends with 2.4's they did the same and my 2.2 shuts down when it gets too hot .... sucks

03glgold 10-23-2012 01:55 PM

air temperature or operating temperature

brickkk 10-23-2012 02:01 PM

the one ur cluster show you , engine temp i guess :) sometimes it goes over half if so then my car shuts down :/

03glgold 10-23-2012 02:03 PM

that is strange...mine has the 2.2 but it never shuts down if it goes over half I imagine that it would if it got to red but i wouldn't let it get that far

03glgold 10-23-2012 05:22 PM

do i have the correct understanding that the 2.4 is the most sensitive of the 3 motors in accordance to maintnance

brickkk 10-23-2012 05:27 PM

Nope, Keep the oil changed and ""full"" and keep an eye on the water pump (You don't want coolant in the oil do you?), and water outlet. My 2.4 is at 130k and still gets rev to 5500 at lease one a day. My 01 grand am had a hard life since i got it at 32k.

It has way less things to go wrong, unlike the 3400. But you can fix everything on the side of the road on a 3400 with a $9 socket set.

03glgold 10-23-2012 06:28 PM
