I can get a whole custom exhaust fabbed up if I bring in the cat and muffler I want with the headers already on for $100. Did great work on the mustang and GTO so I'd rather just take my car to him then pay their ridiculous prices. I just want to get an idea of some flowmasters, mangnaflows, with different cats maybe. Their are so many options! I dont it want it to sound like i tin can rice rocket when its done.

Sadly its a 4cyl. They arent easy to make them sound good. Youtube is your friend on this.

I have a magnaflow muffler, magnaflow high flow cat, pacesetter header, 2.5" piping. Make sure to also get a good size resonator so it's not raspy.

Pacesetter is regarded as the worst when it comes to the 4-cylinder variants.

I have a fully 3" stainless exhaust, with a Vibrant Ultra-Quiet resonator and then a Walker Quiet Flow at the back. But then again I wanted it quiet but high flowing.

I had a clip, I checked my fquick looking for it, and searched old threads I started to see if I can find it. Long story short, had a shop build me a cat back 2 1/4" piping and a Magnaflow muffler. Sounds pretty decent for a 4-cylinder.

Pacesetter is junk for 4 cylinder cars. They only make 4-1 headers. The best way to make the Ecotec sound nice is with 4-2-1 headers. Not only that, but it gives it more grunt in its lower end band. You actually lose that in a 4-1 setup.

The only thing though is that it's hard to source 4-2-1 headers for the Ecotec. The main reason I didn't want to buy SPC's stuff was because he had a 4-1 pacesetter. I wanted a 4-2-1 system.

So here's a video with a 4-2-1 system. It's not a V8 sound obviously but you don't feel like you're riding a 93 Civic.

EDIT: If you can get custom headers made, you would be golden.

03glgold 05-23-2014 07:37 AM

They sell 4-2-1 headers on ebay all over the place, might not have the highest quality coating but its a start...you could also look for the 2.4 eco since it has more aftermarket and is compatible

Too funny you mention this

Funny you bring this up. I was driving home the other day and had some guy in a Honda pull up next to me. Dented, paint was crap, so low he bottomed out on the crappy street, missing and sputering, you could see the ripped up upholstery and it sound like a gay fart can. When we stopped at the light for some reason he revved up his little crappy four banger. I almost fell over I was laughing so hard :emotlol: I was thinking dude maybe you should pay to make sure your cars actually running decent and not look like a huge piece of crap rather then spend that money on some chromed out exhaust and headers.

Papa Rad17 05-23-2014 03:22 PM

What are some brands and places to look for 4-2-1 headers then? My step brother could probably make a set no problem, he does for his derby cars all the time but I need good reference material for him.

Papa Rad17 05-23-2014 03:24 PM

found plenty of tusdo ones, they are supposed to have terrible fitment from what I've head though.

AbHeLlRaZoR 05-23-2014 06:40 PM

4-1 Pace Setter Armor coated header for Cobalt SS supercharged, pretty popular among the Cavalier guys.

Papa Rad17 05-24-2014 02:52 AM

Well its going to have to be the tusdo. cant argue with the price for a set of stainless ones. Magnaflow highflow cat. and Im thinking of giving this a shot, might as well for easier fitment and its considerably cheaper than name brand.

Both video clips sound horrible IMHO. They sound like beeifer than their lanwmower sounding counterparts.

"I" motors sound like crap with exhaust. It's the inline design on the motor ;)

ffs 04-01-2015 10:36 PM

I have a huge magnaflow muffler (case length 18" i think) with the standard 2" exhaust. Thinking about doing a resonator delete soon just to get more loud. Right now it's a very "bassy" tone, with no ricey and farty sounds in the top end.

Papa Rad17 04-02-2015 10:08 AM

I have my headers, resonator, and a summit 18in glass pack sitting in boxes here. Will be a long while before they get installed but I'm hoping once its done it'll sound better.
