Horn doesn't work

I tried switching relays, nothing. There is no power going to the horn when the horn button is pressed. I checked the negative wire, ground is good. Anyone have any ideas, I really don't want to install a seperate horn switch. The problem is on my 2003 Alero.

wires may be corroded, or perhaps a blown out horn (it happens every now and then). whatever the case may be, it should be a cheap and easy fix. keep checking.

1. check fuses

2. check all wires running to the horns

3. purchase new horns ( make sure to get one high and one low tone ....)

4. dont know how you'd check the button in the steering wheel.. but check it lol

5. if all of the above fails.. buy a train horn, air tank and compressor and contact Redog about installation instructions

about the high and low tone.. I accidently bought two high tone horns- not even looking at the tone on the package- installed them both.. and the first time I was passin' by someone I knew I gave a honk and it sounded like I ran over a small child.. so make sure you get a high AND a low.

clutch1 08-04-2008 02:03 AM

just get a bigger tank! How about 2 8 gallons in the trunk?

Boy I wish I had room for that, yea baby!

JOEY GLADSTONE 08-04-2008 02:34 AM

How cheap can you get a whole train horn set up for? I have seen them for like $400-$450, and I really cant see spending that money. It would be f-in sweet to have though...

Horn doesn't work

There is both a fuse & a relay for the horn. Check both. GM in her wisdom combined the horn button with the air bag. You can't fix the horn switch without replacing the whole air bag assembly. Big $. Sometimes the foam surrounding the horn button area gets warped & the "button" area shorts out causing the horn to sound constantly. It is as if you were laying on the horn non stop.

If you're not around when this happens your neighbors get an earfull. Often the fuse will blow after a few minutes of this. Maybe this is what happened to you.

I had to disconnect the horn relay because of this & hook up my own push-button switch & mount it to the turn signal arm. If u want I can give details.

Good luck.

So I know this is an old-ish thread, but I'm haveing some horn problems. A friend of mine went to get my care inspected, for the Hi safty sticker, and it failed due to the horn not working.
When he told me that I remembered that I had taken out the fuse because the horn didn't turn off when the fuse was in.
What caused that was, a while back, I drove through a really deep puddle, and the horn blew for a few seconds then turned off, but a few minutes later it started again and never stoped, can someone tell me what to do to fix the stock horn quickly so its ready to drive when I get back to hawaii?

sounds like you got the wires for the horn wet and its shorting out.

This happened to me after our last hurricane, the horn speakers get flooded and ruined.

Goto the junkyard and find an alero (the universal horn sold in stores does not have the plugs where the power plug clips into on aleros). Open the hood, pull up the 2 black tabs that release the passenger side headlight and remove it. Bam! Horn is right there. Remove replacement horn, takes an 11mm nut or so on each 2 speakers, and repeat process to replace them onto your car. Takes 5 mins start to finish.

so I have to use one out f an alero.....Okay, makes for an easy fix if I can find an alero in a hawaii junk yard :(

The same discontinued style is common in many cars, I just can't tell you how to get to the horn or which ones will work ;)
