I blew my engine up last night, I threw a rod but the block is still intact. I have the extended warranty and the car only has 74,000 K/m on it. Does anyone know if this will be covered?

Silverknight 03-01-2004 12:30 PM

As far as I know it should be covered...I got this from the Extended Warranty website : Engine

Cylinder block, heads, all internally lubricated engine parts, manifold, timing gears, timing gear chain/belt, timing gear cover, flywheel, oil pump/oil pump housing, seals, gaskets, water pump, fuel pump, harmonic balancer, OHC carriers, valve covers, oil pan and engine mounts. Also covered are turbocharger/supercharger housing, internal parts, valves, intercooler, seals and gaskets.

I just wanna make sure. ;)

depends what mods you've done to the motor
I read in another topic that you have nx so odds are that they aren't going to cover it unless you do a really good cover up and turn everything back stock that has anything to do with the motor

jonez 03-01-2004 12:36 PM

If you have NOS, no they will not cover it. As for the other mods it will depend.

j-work 03-01-2004 12:49 PM

Pretty much any aftermarket mod in or on the engine will void the warranty. Such as NOS, Chips, Superchargers, turbochargers, oil coilers, etc.

Pimpalero03 03-01-2004 12:49 PM

well that sucks mister porsche racer. lol

brsexton 03-01-2004 01:01 PM

Also you better make sure that you have all the records that you have had the oil changed on time, everytime. They are very strick on that.

misslindseysue 03-01-2004 01:05 PM

They can void the warranty for aftermarket stuff, but only if they can prove that it caused the problem. Just call the dealer, say what happened, don't mention any mods, and ask if it's covered.

Take out anything related to spray

chicken_dog 03-01-2004 02:43 PM

Take out all mods and put it back to stock in the engine compartment. I wish i did this when mine blew!! It cost me 4 grand to install a new motor.

How can they do anything about this considering the manual says you only need to change the oil when the computer detects viscosity is too high and throws the code to turn on your change oil light?

I always make it farther than 5000 between changes...

They are still going to have you bring it and and do one hell of an inspection on that motor. Bottomline they aren't going to cover it cause of the NOS. Time to fork out some cash.

Is this the new quote of the week?

Yeah the stock motor doesn't just blow, any mechanic will know you ran nitrous, so basically start searchin for a new car or engine. Now would be a good time to try a swap. :D

shockz 03-01-2004 06:37 PM

What engine did you have anyways?

And what did you do to make it blow?

3.4Alero 03-01-2004 08:01 PM

Question for you guys: what are the "signs" of running nitrous? A few of you say he is screwed, even if he removes all traces of the kit. What would the mechanic see?

I have to agree with 3.4, chances are they are not going to take the engine, down especially if it is warrenty, they are just going to swap it out, with a reman.

Also the idication of NOS looks almost identical to a lean condition in the motor which is errosion on the tops of the pistons. This can be attributed to several other things than NOS.

Take it in, have your reciepts from oil changes, and get your new motor.

Oh yeah but take the NOS kit off if you have one, also CAI and exhaust, as in these 4 bangers given the right conditions with those mods, CAI and exhaust, can run really lean, and yes GM knows this and that can be deemed the cause of engine failure thus not covered under warrenty.

3.4Alero 03-01-2004 08:43 PM

Thanks overdrive. Not that I'm defending the kid. His nitrous most likely WAS a big cause, and now he is gonna get GM to flip the bill, but I just wanted to hear one of the "your screwed but I don't REALLY know why" people answer.

shockz 03-01-2004 09:02 PM

No wonder it blew up... look at this: http://www.selleasier.com/AleroRevs2.mpg
