Car won't start
I have just replaced my starter, alternator and battery, but my car still won't start. It clicks when I turn the key, and I have full power to the radio, wipers, etc., but it just won't start. I own a multitester, but I'll be darned if I know how to use it. Any ideas on the problem or instructions on how to test for it?

Is the security light on? Look at your gauge cluster.... Could also be a fuel filter or the pump.
|
Listen for the buzz from the pump.
|
if your security light is flashing.. you need to leave your car in the ON position for 10 - 11 minutes or untill it stops flashing, this resets your security and the car will start- or should.

he said it CLICKS, it does not crank....siezed?? busted timing chain?
|
Well, when I just turn the key to ON, the security light (as well as the "service engine soon" light, battery light, and oil light) do stay on. Nothing is flashing though. I didn't think anything of it, since I have a new battery and have enough oil.

Well, it clicks once when I try to start the ignition.

good.. then its not your security. can you hear your fuel pump when you first turn your ignition on? when you START the car, it just clicks? it doesnt crank at all?
when you hear said CLICK, does everything keep power or does everything shut off? |
Definately an electrical issue.
|
Yep.... LOL

starter solinoid?
|
Yes, I can hear the fuel pump when I try to start the car. Yes, it just clicks once when I turn the key. It doesn't crank. I don't lose any power when I try to start it. All the power to the radio, lights, etc., is fine.

he just replaced his starter lol.. check the wiring to your starter and make sure its fully connected- that's about the only idea I can come up with. |
check your wiring circuit for your starting system. haynes and other such manual will have it. it is problaly something in the wiring or the connections in any part of the circuit. forst work from the starter and starter motor. you'll need a fluke 87 meter which is a multimeter to do it right but those run pretty expensive. so learn about your meter and test the circuit.

Where did you get the replacement parts?
I'm guessing that you bought them at Autozone, Pep Boys, or some other place that sells mostly defective parts. |

Does it start then stop running after a few seconds? If so it's the BCM, your fuxed if it is.

I do buy from Autozone, but I got the starter from the "local guy" . That turned out to be the problem. I repaced the starter last night- again- and it started right up. However, now the battery light is lit on the dashboard and the wipers run rather slow.

like i said you have to find the pin point problem in the circuit. usually problems that bounce around like this is caused by a problem within the circuit. being wires or connections
