is the security light on?

greenbastard 06-06-2009 02:37 AM

yes it is. i tried that security over ride but still nothing.

[ion] C2 06-06-2009 09:37 AM

you didn't put the BCM in did you

greenbastard 06-06-2009 12:35 PM

no i just did the wiring for the engine compartment and fuse box and pcu

[ion] C2 06-06-2009 12:56 PM

need the BCM, VINs have to match. also:

Quote:

The following components contain codes or passwords, or must learn codes or passwords for the Passlock™ System to allow the vehicle to start:

The ignition lock cylinder case
The body control module (BCM)
The powertrain control module (PCM)
If any of these parts are replaced, a learn procedure must be performed. Refer to Programming Theft Deterrent System Components . If parts are replaced and a learn procedure is not performed, the engine will crank and will not run or will start and stall immediately.

greenbastard 06-06-2009 01:30 PM

it doesn't crank over. you gotta jump it.

Cliff8928 06-06-2009 01:45 PM

That's because the starter is controlled by the BCM on the 3400.. Not on the 4-cylinders.

In a 3400 Alero, you don't even have to hold the key when it's cranking. (at least 01-04, not sure on the older ones)

Swap out the dash harness and probably the BCM. You might be able to have the BCM reprogrammed, but not all of them can be.

side question./// wouldnt the original motor before the swap have more potential power and available aftermarket?

[ion] C2 06-06-2009 02:58 PM

I was going to ask who told him to do such a swap but figured I'd just say something constructive instead.

x2....

greenbastard 06-07-2009 12:28 AM

i've blown two of those engines up and decidied to swap a 3400. some people may disagree with my decision but whatever it's my car and thats what i wanted to do.

also what about my fuel pump. does it run through the bcm aswell cuz the pump doesn't turn on and the gas gauge doesn't register. the gas light comes on and the needle doesn't move. buddy of mine jumped it to see if it works and it does.

Cliff8928 06-07-2009 01:21 AM

All of the gauges are controlled via the Class 2 data bus, and intern by the BCM or PCM.

3500Alero 06-07-2009 09:24 AM

how are your grounds? the security re-learn was done properly? No codes, turn key on, crank for one sec, leave key on for 10 mins till the light goes out?

the only harness I swapped was under the hood. did you get the harness from the same year car?

I did not change my cluster, or BCM, just the PCM

greenbastard 06-07-2009 02:37 PM

no i have an 01 and engine tranny and harness from 02.

3500Alero 06-07-2009 02:54 PM

did you scan it yet?

greenbastard 06-07-2009 03:15 PM

would one of those obd2 scanners from part source work cuz i know the people that own it.

3500Alero 06-07-2009 03:40 PM

they might work, depends on how many codes the can scan, some of those scaners only read out P0000 codes.

I have a problem with my speedometer not working and and the rpms off. Also it will not shift without starting in 1st gear. My motor is a 3400 and the check engine light is on. if anybody can help me that would be great.

Is your engine harness for a car with PCM controlled start or not? (it appears to be a mid-year 02 change).
