most people would consider it a good thing that the annoying dings are gone
but it's due to not using the correct wiring harness. the chimes weren't wired up with your aftermarket deck properly. |
any idea what harness should be used to retain rap and chimes ?
|
The correct harness runs in the neighborhood of $70 and comes with 12 feet of extra wiring to relocate the factory deck somewhere else in the car...most people just strap it down in the trunk.
|
Weird. I bought my headunit from Crutchfield, which includes the correct harness for free, and my chimes work. Plug and play. Shouldn't need to have the factory radio in the car
|
Ion, Does yours have a little speaker?
|
because you have a 2000. It's only 2001-2004 that are affected.
There is an adjustment for the chime level with the gmos-04. Check the 7th page of the manual. http://documents.victorytechnologies...oduct/6932.pdf |
And Cliff comes in to save the day! I was always confused when people were talking about this $100+ wiring harness that I didn't seem to need.

Tried the adjustment no luck wonder if the speaker is in the gmos-4 or u need to use external speaker since none of the rca"s from the metra were plugged into the hu there are no external speaker hooked to it. |
That could be it...

No chimes was up there with winning the lottery when i had my hoe! Wiring harness for the mustang for mobile video is $150
|
I have an 04 and I got the harness from someone here and I did not have to keep the stock stereo. I paid 70 for it. Kept the chimes. I'll see if I have more info about it at home...

That would be great, have to pull out the hu soon to wire backup camera and head rest monitors. |
Check your pm's I found some info on the harness let me know if it works...

I used the GM wiring harness unit from Periferal, on e-bay. It has the module in it so you get the chimes and all the other wonderful stuff that $90 can buy you.
The module is bright green and it about 3" x 1.5" x 1.5" and just gets tied under your dash |
Well have you checked that the Audio output is at a reasonable level. It says in the instructions that if you have a HU that has high voltage outputs that you need to adjust the output level on the GMOS to around 2volts or it will cause distortion if you have a factory amp.
Just from reading what you wrote and the directions on the GMOS it appears that the chimes are being feed throught the RCA's on the GMOS, and if you don't have those hooked up then that could be where the problem is. I doesn't appear to be any audio from the head unit being sent through the unit itself unless you use the RCA's or the Metra Line Converter. If you are truly not using rca's then you have to be using a line output converter, and it may very well be the wrong one. Just my opinion from what I have seen posted above. |

Yeah the rca's from the head unit all go to the fosgate amp's that feed all speakers, guess the gmos is for aftermarket head unit to factory sound system. I may try plugging the monssoon amp back in and attach a speaker to the factory wiring in the left door see if my chimes are there. |
So are you just using the GMOS for power to the aftermarket HU? This could be where the problem is. Let us know how that goes!
|
yep power for the HU, RAP works fine, reverse for rear view camera and park brake for watching dvd's all this works with the cmos, will let you know when i find the chimes.
|
Hey im a supervisor of car electroincs. Usually the GMOS4 is if you have on star. You would want the GMRC02 which retains door chime and accesory.
