Ok, I know this may sound kinda stupid, but how do you get an Alero to have a muscle car sound. I realize that you can't have a muscle car sound without a muscle car. I know that V8's are better at doing this then a V6, but I am trying to mimick or get as close to the sound as I can w/ my alero. Anybody out there know what modifications I can do without buying a whole new V8 engine.

Headers, Metal 'Cat and a SLP cat-back exhaust.

natedawg9640 02-06-2006 09:59 PM

yeah... headers, highflows and duals...

install a Olds V-8 and there you go.

flowmaster 40 series mufflers give the deepest exhaust tone

dual cherry bombs (I can't wait to get mine installed) :D

Flowmaster

A cut out for your catback. Its a pipe that goes right before your catback and you press a button and instead of your exhaust going through your catback it goes straight into the ground. Highly illegal in most states. They sell them on pfyc.com

its called an exhaust cut out valve. not really going to sound like a muscle car, tho. not sure on hp increase, but low sound will be lost.

Plus an Air Intake System

he said musclecar......... not rice burner

dragonwebz 02-07-2006 01:26 PM

ok I recently had my muffler completely taken off and I now have an ansa exhaust tip. I guess its from the 60's or 70's muscle car. Looks great. My car now sounds deeper but lacks that "chug" sound. I actually can't find a place to by the tip online or in stores. I'm one step closer to the sound I want. I definetely don't want to end up as a rice burner!!

On a side note, how much of a sound increse would I get with new headers, and would it be any closer to a muscle car sound?

and I said cherry bombs (glasspacks, like the 60's) not a FART CAN. And dont try and tell me you dont have a fart can on yours. If you can spell the "R" word, you're probably guilty.

SweetNLow 02-07-2006 06:39 PM

shows how much u know then cause the type of MUFFLER determines much of the SOUND you EXHAUST puts out.

and unless u have a v8...... glass packs are gonna make ur car sound like RICE.

and i guess im "RICE" since i can spell.

BlackJack 02-07-2006 06:51 PM

shows what I know? ok, lets see......how about some sound clips for everyone to enjoy, from ExhaustSoundClips.com

dual cherries

cherry bombs

more cherry bombs....

Sorry, but I dont agree with your assessment. Perhaps you might be tone-deaf in the low end range? And yes, one of them is a v6, tyvm.

SweetNLow 02-07-2006 07:01 PM

well maybe u should learn how to link cause those links dont work.

and unless those are all sound clips of aleros with different mufflers ur argument gets thrown out the window.

go put a cherry bomb on an alero and tell me it doesnt sound like a honda. IVE HEARD IT BEFOR AND THATS WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE.

BlackJack 02-07-2006 07:07 PM

yeah, probably did with those AEM tips you like so much.

Not my fault if you dont know how to work your own computer. If that's all you can bring, try again.

I've heard another GM 3400 with dual cherries, first hand, and it didn't sound anything like those high-pitched whiney-assed fart cans that you're talking about.

natedawg9640 02-07-2006 08:29 PM

it's not a fart can... i've put a "fart can" on a 2.4 cavi and it sounded insane... although it had headers and 3" all the way back... it was loud, and low... so no... the muffler isn't always what determines the sound of the exhaust... the exhaust determines it...

BlackJack 02-07-2006 08:37 PM

agreed. Many factors involved.
resonator or no
pipe diameter
total flow volume
if muffler, total number/size of chambers, etc.

Some people think the term "cherry bomb" means glasspack in general (like the term "Kleenex" = tissue). The ones I'm looking into are Cherry Bomb brand, and they sound nice and deep on germ's Monte.

AndysGX 02-08-2006 11:34 AM

Links don't work.....

Short of swapping a v8 into an Alero, you won't get the muscle car sound. Period.
However, a cammed, high compression 3.4L with good exhaust would sound damn nice at idle. Reving it would still sound like ass though. Its a displacement issue that can't be overcome short of a swap. I've got a vid or 2 of some modified 60* v6s. I'll post em in about an hour when I get home for lunch.
