I need an exhaust that will give me some more hp, looks good, and doesnt sound like a beat up old chevy. This is my christmas present to myself so help me out. I wanna buy a good product but I dont wanna spend a whole lot and I don't want it to be loud and annoying...maybe quiet with a higher pitch noise than a lower pitch noise...i dont know...someone help me out.

johny_boy32 11-22-2003 01:32 PM

one more thing....being quiet while ideling and a nice sound at high rpms would be a plus.

aleropimp1 11-27-2003 03:01 PM

Check out this thread: http://invision.aleromod.com/index.php?showtopic=285

One recommendation is the SLP exhaust, it does sound low but still raspy. This still might be too low and loud for you though. If so, then the flowmaster (as aleropimp1 recommended) should be a good fit.

You could always check out google search for "flowmaster sound clips" and listen to the exhausts that way.

I've never heard the SLP on a 4 cylinder, but on the 6, it doesn't sound raspy... it seriously sounds low and muscular... espcially once its broken in. I have heard the borla on the 4 cylinder, and it doesn't sound that great. It has the popping/backfiring sound and it is not loud enough.

Flowmaster would probably be too loud for you...

I would try out Dynamax or something like that.

havik 11-28-2003 12:47 PM

Figured the SLP was too much, I thought flowmaster would be a better fit. I have the dynomax at home, got it from a friend and it sounded good on his 2.2 (shouldn't be much different sound than the 2.4). I think I'm going a different route with the exhaust so I'll sell it to ya if you like :)

Silentalero 11-28-2003 12:51 PM

nick i have the slp on my 2.4L u heard it at gap.

but yea the slp on our cars is raspy for a nice sound id say go borla

johny_boy32 11-28-2003 04:10 PM

hey aleropimp...where did you get the flowmaster and how much was it.

aleropimp1 11-29-2003 06:10 PM

i got it at summit raceing its like an hour away from my house so i picked one up for like 90 bucks. Then i got a tip for like 12 bucks so in total around 100 bucks. it has a nice sound a low kinda melow sound its not load when the cars at rest and it sounds good when ya floor it

Oldsman 11-30-2003 12:45 AM

SLP is raspy
Borla sounds good but a little quiet
Flowmaster and Dynomax sound very close to the same. which is not raspy, louder than Borla and has some what of a deep sound.

johny_boy32 11-30-2003 03:18 PM

I'm gonna check into the flowmaster then...i'm going more for the quiet idiling sound and tough sound when floored...thanks for all who had an imput. I'll tell you later what i decided.

johny_boy32 11-30-2003 03:44 PM

Alright...this might be the same as you have aleropimp...then all i have to do is get a good looking tip and good enough for now right?...sorry new with all this exhaust stuff....?

aleropimp1 12-02-2003 03:19 PM

mfuller 12-02-2003 04:35 PM

I know I'm gonna catch hell for this, but have any of you 4-cylinder owners ever considered an exhaust that was designed for a 4-cylinder? Mugen makes some of the sweetest sounding silencers I've ever heard......yes, they're made for Hondas, but I've never heard any 4-banger sound so ballsy.

johny_boy32 12-02-2003 06:45 PM

first of all....lets see some pics...and second of all...Mugens huh...i will check into that but i still want quiet at idiling and ballsy when floored....?

aleropimp1 12-03-2003 01:21 AM

:pimp: alero pimp

i will get picks, i just need time to wash my car first. o ya and the flow master says for small 6v' or 4 cy and we gots big 4'
